Accountability Objective
The Vice President of Academic Affairs manages and directs the areas of the College relating to curriculum transformational programs of study and course development of the academic divisions and the delivery of instruction. This is an academic leader who promotes innovation, accountability and excellence in teaching and learning with a belief in providing best practice and industry driven instruction, appropriate resources and continued faculty development to assist our students in achieving lifelong higher education goals.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. Degree in a related area, such as administration, education, supervision, or curriculum development
- Five or more years of experience as an educational leader in higher education setting
- Knowledge with all modalities of course deliveries, instructional cutting-edge technologies, and leading industry learning management systems
- Extensive in curriculum development, classroom management, and faculty development
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff, and encourage their professional development
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, staff and community
- Vision and proven leadership and understanding of the issues facing community college in today’s evolving higher education landscape
- Ability to plan creatively and develop long term strategies to address long term opportunities and/or challenges
- Ability to lead student learning outcomes and assessment
- Knowledge and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of the traditional and non-traditional students and community we serve
- Understanding of a broad spectrum of students, both traditional and non-traditional
- Must be a team player administrator with excellent communication

- Serve as the chief academic officer of the College.
- Supervise, facilitate the work, and evaluate all programs and personnel under the auspices of this position.
- Maintain oversight for credit and non-credit instructional programs for Adult Education Department, Business & Technology Division, Liberal Arts Division, Math, Science & Health Professions Division, Hoopeston Higher Learning Center and the Online Learning and Learning Resources.
- Delegate authority to academic deans and directors and other reporting administrators to ensure maximum coordination and integration of programs, information reporting, facilities, in-service education, personnel efficiency and performance evaluations.
- Responsible for the instructional assessment program and for promoting the use of assessment results to effect desired improvements in student learning, performance, development, and achievement. Supervise the Assessment Coordinator and Assessment Champions.
- Ensure that accreditation standards pertaining to the instructional programs and services of the College are maintained. Supervise the HLC Accreditation Steering Chair.
- Develop and evaluate policies or programs within the academic operations and recommend new ones to College administration; direct implementation of authorized policies or programs; may participate in the formulation of College policies or procedures.
- Manage, direct, and critically review staffing recommendations of departments in organization.
- Responsible for the development and management of the budget for all instructional programs.
- Coordinate the planning and implementation of instructional technology and resources for the campus.
- Keep abreast of the latest developments in the area of supervision, administration, research, philosophy of teaching and learning, curriculum, learning outcomes, assessment, instructional technologies and extracurricular activities.
- Direct and oversee timely and accurate academic program updates to DACC website.
- Determine personnel and financial needs of instructional programs and services and submit written recommendations to the President.
- Maintain Academic Services Section of Board Policy and Part Time Faculty Handbook containing the established academic policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Provide leadership for the implementation of the College’s Strategic Plan.
- Assist with preparation of the College Catalog and maintain the academic calendar.
- Make written recommendations to the President relative to personnel employment, supervision, leaves,dismissals, probationary and tenure status, retention and evaluation.
- Make sound decisions and recommendations based upon all available information.
- Provide a leadership role in creating partnerships with business, industry and education partners.
- Coordinate the planning for faculty and staff in-service.
- Serve on the Emergency Management Team and work to develop procedures and handle emergencies.
- Serve on the Management Negotiations Teams.
- Take prudent steps in the identification and analysis of loss exposures or potential loss exposures. Instrumental in providing leadership to implement steps and techniques to minimize College exposure. Provide ongoing monitoring of administrative decisions and adjust implementation as deemed appropriate.
