Automation Tech

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Automation Tech to support and optimize onshore production automation systems in the Permian Basin. This is not an entry-level position and not suited for general electricians—it requires strong, hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley systems and the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will serve as a local subject matter expert for PLC/HMI programming, instrumentation, and control system troubleshooting, operating on a 7/7 rotational schedule.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair Allen-Bradley PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix), RTUs, and HMIs.
• Calibrate and maintain instrumentation including level, pressure, flow, and vibration devices.
• Ensure automation system reliability across well pads, batteries, SWD sites, and compressor stations.
• Program and modify logic in Studio 5000 (Ladder, Function Block, Structured Text).
• Configure and commission new installations using P&IDs, Cause & Effect matrices, and control narratives.
• Develop and maintain HMI screens and alarm systems using FactoryTalk View.
• Use SAP or other CMMS tools for work planning, documentation, and maintenance tracking.
• Follow Management of Change (MOC) procedures and company programming standards.
• Safely work around energized systems and confined spaces.
• Follow OSHA, NEC, NFPA, and company safety protocols.

Qualifications

• 3 yrs. of Oil and Gas Automation experience required.
• Associate degree in Instrumentation, Automation, or related field preferred. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Proficiency with Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View.
• Strong knowledge of analog/discrete I/O, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus communications.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and loop sheets.
• Willingness to work a 7/7 rotational schedule.
• Ability to work independently and travel to remote field locations.
• Capable of operating aerial lifts and working under supplied air when required.
• Must be able to meet all conditional job offer requirements including background, drug test (hair follicle), AMVR, agility and fit for duty.
