Client Opportunity: Mid-sized construction company seeking a Project Cost Accounting and Controls Specialist in Elmira, NY. Will support construction projects and serve as a key liaison between operations and corporate finance. This highly visible role is responsible for financial reporting, compliance, forecasting, and project processing activities across multiple projects in New York and Northern Pennsylvania, with strong opportunities for professional growth and career development. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Construction-NY, and works closely with project teams and trade partners.
Responsibilities
· Compile owner requisition and pay estimates
· Process subcontractor requisitions and accounts payable
· Support project accounting, financial administration activities, and monthly project financial forecasting
· Prepare monthly cost reports and KPI monitoring
· Monitor project cash flow and forecasting activities
· Manage change order monitoring and reconciliation
· Lead contract administration, procurement coordination, scheduling, and financial reporting
· Maintain knowledge of project contracts and stakeholder requirements
· Secure permits and verify subcontractor insurance coverage
· Facilitate project meetings, monitor project progress, and establish deadlines
· Prepare and submit monthly job status reports outlining project priorities and issues
· Lead project close-out activities, including turnover documentation, warranties, and final subcontractor payments
· Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, engineering firms, subcontractors, vendors, and design partners
· Promote and support a culture of safety on project sites
· Assist with proposals and bid preparation for new business opportunities
· Support recruitment and retention of industry talent
Minimum Qualifications
· Preferred degree in Construction Management, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field; equivalent experience considered
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
