Reports To: Principal
Terms of Employment: Permanent, 10 Month Position
Nature of Work
Performs difficult professional work providing a broad range of teaching services or specific learning program, assisting students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning in accordance with each student's ability, using a variety of teaching and learning methods at various levels to a targeted audience, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Principal.
Qualifications and Licensure
- Must hold, or be working toward an applicable North Carolina (NC) Standard Professional Educator's License
- Teachers that hold an Out of State License must apply for a license with the NC Department of Public Instruction
- Teachers working toward the required education and licensure shall hold a minimum of a BA/BS degree from an accredited college/university
- Strong knowledge of foundational reading and math instructional practices
- Creative, collaborative, and skilled in differentiating instruction to meet a wide range of student needs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Follows district guidelines, regulations and best practices to ensure a safe and age-appropriate environment that promotes learning.
- Models, implements and assesses strategies related to learning, social, emotional and behavioral needs to enhance educational programming for all learners.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school, and apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.
- Provides social-emotional learning opportunities to students to help students better manage their emotions, show empathy, and manage their behavior.
- Maintains open, effective communication with the student’s parents.
- Manages parent/guardian student progress notifications in the online platform.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
- Maintains student confidentiality.
- Identify and select different instructional resources, materials, and methods to meet students' varying needs with fidelity.
- Plan, prepare and deliver schemes of work, and lesson plans with instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences based on the student’s current level.
- Provides engaging evidence-based interventions to small groups of students based on student needs and the NC Standard Course of Study.
- Maintains a database of student progress and analyzes data records to drive instruction.
- Collaborates with building administrators and staff to support the MTSS framework and needs.
- Collaborates with the Intervention Coordinator and designated personnel to facilitate student interventions.
- Assists in the development and implementation of intervention plans for students.
- Collaborate with the school counselor and refer students for mental health services as needed.
- Promotes effective interpersonal relations and engages in continuing professional growth activities.
- Participate in department and school meetings as well as parent meetings.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements (if applicable)
- This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
- Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires sitting and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, and lifting.
- Work has standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and operating machines.
Special Requirements (if applicable)
- Strong background in North Carolina Course of Study/Common Core and Essential Standards.
- Must demonstrate leadership.
- Must establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students.
- Must work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students by improving communication and collaboration between the school and the home and community.
- Must uphold the Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional Conduct.
