What are the responsibilities and job description for the Architectural Drafter position at Daniels Design & Remodeling?
Residential Drafter Job Description
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Drafter to join our residential remodeling team. This role is designed for a professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is eager to grow their technical expertise in Revit and Twinmotion. You will play a critical role in transforming design concepts into precise construction documents and immersive 3D visualizations, ensuring our clients’ visions are accurately realized.
Core Responsibilities
Drafting & Modeling: Take responsibility for creating and maintaining accurate Revit models and construction documents, beginning with developing detailed as-built drawings based on Leica scans, adding architectural details and translating site measurements, hand drawings and preliminary concepts into clear, coordinated and buildable permit ready drawings -- including floor plans, elevations, sections, and structural details.
Visualizations: Develop high-quality 3D renderings and walkthroughs using Twinmotion including assigning and adjusting materials in Revit based 3D models to accurately represent design intent and support client visualization.
Standards & Quality: Maintain and update the firm’s Revit standards, templates, and families to ensure consistency and efficiency across all projects.
Team Collaboration: Work effectively in group settings and cross-functional teams. Collaborate with architects, drafters, sales and production teams while maintaining strong attention to detail to resolve design discrepancies and meet project deadlines. Participate in daily stand-ups and sprint planning to coordinate with architects, project managers, and production teams to resolve design discrepancies and meet deadlines.
Continuous Learning: Demonstrate eagerness to learn and continuously improve by expanding knowledge of current building codes, remodeling methods and software tools and by actively seeking opportunities to enhance technical and design skills. Proactively learn current building codes, remodeling methods, and software advancements to contribute innovative solutions to the design process.
Key Qualifications & Skills
Strong Work Ethic: A proactive "self-starter" attitude with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
Meticulous Attention to Detail: In remodeling, precision is critical; small errors in measurements or annotations can lead to costly rework or structural issues. This skill ensures all "as-built" drawings and permit sets are technically accurate.
Technical Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with Autodesk Revit is required; experience with Twinmotion for rendering is highly preferred.
Time Management and Prioritization: Meeting strict permit and production deadlines is essential. Drafters must efficiently manage multiple overlapping projects without sacrificing drawing quality.
Clear and Multi-Channel Communication: Beyond team collaboration, drafters must effectively translate complex technical jargon into simple terms for clients and contractors. This includes strong written documentation to avoid misunderstandings in project sets.
Spatial Awareness and Visualization: The ability to mentally translate 2D plans into 3D objects helps drafters foresee potential conflicts (like plumbing vs. structural beams) before they reach the job site.
Team Player: Excellent interpersonal skills with a desire to contribute to a positive, collaborative office environment and share knowledge with colleagues.
Communication: Ability to clearly explain technical drawings and specifications to team members and occasionally to clients.
What We Offer
Competitive Compensation: Compensation based upon experience.
Mentorship: Opportunity to work closely with senior designers and learn the intricacies of high-end residential remodeling.
Technology: Leica scanning, Revit and Twinmotion licensing and collaboration.
Growth Potential: Support for ongoing professional development and mastery of the latest BIM and visualization technologies.
Dynamic Culture: A fast-paced, collaborative team environment where your contributions directly impact the success of every project.
