Schedule
20-Hour Position: Monday 12-6 PM, Tuesday 10 AM-6 PM, Wednesday 10 AM-6 PM; Every other Saturday 9 AM-3 PM (off Monday for Saturday)
Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Callaway County Public Library Services Manager, this position has primary responsibility to guide patrons both in the selection of reading materials and information resources, carry through the functions related to borrowing, reserving and returning of library materials and plan and present programs.

- Technology - Demonstrate proven computer literacy with adequate keyboarding skills. Understand basic email functions including opening, creating and sending messages. Familiar with blogs, wikis and social media. Demonstrate search use of library automation system/online catalog and reference databases.
Essential Duties:
- Circulation responsibilities: check out library material to patrons, enter library card information into the library automation system, update patron files, check in and shelve library materials.
- Reference responsibilities: interview patrons to determine needs and locate appropriate materials; provide reference and information services using print materials, reference databases, and/or Internet access; deliver information to patrons using appropriate methods such as in person, telephone, email, etc.
- Provide a continuum of library service to the library user by consulting with other staff to pool knowledge for the benefit of the user and by assisting other staff in providing services and programs for patrons.
- Assist patrons in the use of the library’s catalog, public computers, copiers, Internet-based information and databases.
- Develop competence and skills in the usage of the automation system in accessing library collections and recognizing popular titles and authors in order to provide readers advisory services.
- Participate in in-service training opportunities and may participate in staff planning committees.
- May plan and present programs for all ages, including hosting programs
- May maintain special files at the request of the supervisor.
- May provide clerical assistance as needed within the branch, such as patron use statistics.
- Maintain public bulletin boards, keeping information appropriate, orderly, and timely.
- Identify damaged materials, shelf read, check lists against holdings in the computer in consultation with the manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Scheduling and shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
- Position requires standing for extended periods of time, pushing bookcarts, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, and working on a computer.
- Moderately quiet work environment. Work will be required on evenings and weekends.
- All library employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Job Requirements:
Previous library experience preferred. 48 hours minimum college credit, and one-year customer service experience preferred. Experience can be substituted for college credit.
