Requirements for the Position
- Be permanently certified for teaching in Pennsylvania
- Have proper certification as a counselor in Pennsylvania
- Have satisfactory teaching experience on the elementary level
- Have a Master’s Degree
- The individual’s credentials are in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations governing individuals functioning in the capacity of this position.
- Oversee and facilitate the referral process for identified students
- Oversee and facilitate the testing program for the building
- Serve as the building liaison for all Special Education Programs
- Conduct Guidance classes at all levels
- Serve as the Advisor to the building level Student Council
- Assist the Principal in the schedule and classroom assignment preparation
- Develop the budget for the Guidance Department
- Assist the Principal in preparing and updating student permanent record folders
- Assist the student in discovering and determining educational, social and personal needs, interests and goals
- Develop and direct programs in group guidance, testing, education and counseling, etc.
- Aid parents and staff members in understanding the needs and problems of individual students
- Initiate and complete studies designed to better understand the requirements of individual students
- Actively assist the full staff in improving the total school program including curriculum development, research projects, achievement test analysis, and public relations
- Engage in such courses, conferences, workshops, etc., that are designed to improve the individual counselor’s effectiveness
- Prepare and submit written lesson plans as a basis for the day’s activities
- Be responsible for specified building duties as detailed by the elementary principals
- Attend all faculty and building meetings
- Participate in all in-service training activities
- Be familiar with district policies and execute said policies as may be required and in the manner required by the school’s administration
- Plan and initiate parent-teacher conferences when desirable
- Coordinate and conduct summer guidance activities and services as needed
- Constantly exhibit such personal traits as are deemed desirable for the successful maintenance of sound communication between students, staff and parents
- Assume such other duties as may be determined by the Board of School Directors and the Building Principal
