DEFINITION
Under general supervision, performs general circulation services to the public on mobile library. Assists with stocking mobile library, set up and cleanup of the vehicle. Drives 32’ vehicle on Dane County roads and highways.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Checks in items returned; checks out library materials to patrons. Shelves items on vehicle and at library headquarters. Sorts/arranges holds for patron pickup. Prepares vehicle for the start of route and cleans up vehicle at the end of a shift. Drives mobile libraries.
Education, Training and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required and one (1) year of consistent work experience, preferably in customer service or education environment.
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent. Also refer to the “Physical and Environmental Work Requirements” section below.
Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. For Bilingual Positions:
- Provide services in both English and the required foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Arabic, Hmong, etc.).
- Applicants being considered for bilingual positions will be tested during the recruitment process prior to employment. This will primarily consist of passing an oral language proficiency assessment from English to foreign language and foreign language to English, but may require additional language testing, such as written translation, if it is an essential function of the job.

Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:
Work is generally done in an enclosed mobile library environment in all seasons. Lifting, bending, stooping, crawling, sitting, standing regularly for long periods of time are required. Must be able to lift and carry 50lb bin of books and push carts full of books. When not on route, work is done in a library/office setting.

Technologically proficient; ability to alphabetize. Must possess excellent customer service skills and communicate clearly, efficiently and in a friendly manner. Must possess good organizational skills and be detail-oriented. Demonstrates good problem-solving and judgment skills.
