Library/Media Specialist - 2025/2026 school year

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a qualified Library/Media Specialist to serve elementary schools across the district (specific assignments to be determined). The ideal candidate will foster a love of reading, support literacy and research skills, and promote the ethical and effective use of information and technology. The Library/Media Specialist works collaboratively with teachers and administrators to support curriculum goals and ensure equitable access to resources and technology for all students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage the school library/media center and its collection, including circulation, cataloging, and inventory
• Foster a love of reading and lifelong learning by engaging students with diverse, inclusive, and age-appropriate literature
• Instruct students in library skills, digital citizenship, information literacy, and research strategies
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum needs through print and digital resources
• Integrate technology and media tools to enhance teaching and learning
• Maintain an organized, welcoming, and inclusive library environment
• Support student inquiry, creativity, and independent learning
• Plan and facilitate literacy events, author visits, and reading initiatives
• Manage library budgets and resource acquisition
• Provide training and support to staff in the use of media and digital tools
• Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in school library services
• Participate in ongoing professional development

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Strong knowledge of children’s literature, educational technology, and library systems
• Understanding of library/media curriculum standards and instructional best practices
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Familiarity with diverse learners and ability to support students of all backgrounds and reading levels
• Organizational and time-management skills
• Experience using library management software and digital resource platforms

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Connecticut State Department of Education certification as Library Media Specialist (062)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Library Science (Master’s preferred)
• Experience working in an elementary school setting preferred
• Demonstrated ability to support literacy, research, and technology integration in a school environment

SALARY:
Salary and benefits are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education, available on the district website.
