Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Teacher Empowering Tomorrow's Innovators

Danbury Public Schools is seeking a Project Lead the Way Teacher who brings energy, creativity, and a deep commitment to hands-on, inquiry-based learning in STEM education. This position plays a key role in engaging students through dynamic, project-based lessons designed to build critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. As a PLTW Teacher, you will lead students in exploring real-world challenges through the integration of engineering, biomedical science, and/or computer science. With access to tools like CAD software, 3D printers, and robotics equipment, students will design, experiment, and build solutions while developing a strong foundation in STEM disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the PLTW curriculum in pathways such as Engineering, Biomedical Science, or Computer Science, integrating it with core science instruction.
  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Danbury Board of Education.
  • Set and reinforce clear expectations and classroom routines to maintain a positive, productive learning environment.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum goals and tailored to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge of Science and STEM-based instruction.
  • Utilize technology, lab equipment, CAD software, 3D printers, and robotics to create interactive, hands-on learning experiences.
  • Manage classroom and individual student behavior effectively to support academic success.
  • Design and implement assessments to monitor student progress and guide instructional planning.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records in accordance with district policies.
  • Provide ongoing communication to parents/guardians about student progress through reports, conferences, and other methods.
  • Identify and implement interventions to support student learning when needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across content areas to support interdisciplinary instruction.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that encourages student inquiry, teamwork, and a growth mindset.
  • Participate in curriculum development and selection of instructional materials and equipment.
  • Attend professional development seminars and workshops to enhance instructional skills and student achievement.
  • Support and model ethical behavior and a positive school community image.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Demonstrated success working with adolescent students in diverse, multicultural school settings.
  • Experience with team teaching and collaborative planning.
  • Ability to deliver instruction that promotes inquiry and problem-solving in science and STEM.
  • Strong communication skillsoral and writtenwith active listening and interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Proven organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create an inclusive, supportive classroom culture that reflects equity and respect for all students.
  • Familiarity with PLTW curriculum or similar STEM-based instructional models is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Valid Connecticut State Department of Education certification (034 Science, Grades 712).
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Education, or related field required; Master's preferred.
  • Experience in a secondary school science setting, preferably with urban or multicultural populations.
  • Experience with or willingness to be trained in Project Lead the Way curriculum.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective instructional plans.
  • Commitment to continuous professional growth and student success.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered by the Superintendent and/or Board of Education as appropriate.
