Family Liaison

The Danbury Public Schools vision for family and student engagement is that every school will welcome every family and every student, and actively engage them in student learning and school improvement. Families and communities are integral partners with schools in the educational and life success of our students. The Danbury Public School is seeking entrepreneurial and persistent influencers to serve alongside dedicated educators and administrators working to deliver on the promise of excellent public school education.

Scope of Work: The Family Liaison is responsible for building partnerships with families that break down barriers of communication, understanding and navigating schools, and to build families and school capacities.

Reports to the School Principal for daily supervision and directions, and the Office of FSCP for support, training and resources.

Primary Responsibilities

• Recognize barriers that prevent families' full engagement in schools by providing resources, interpretation, and other related services.
• Address family’s questions and concerns to appropriate school staff for the purpose of supporting students' school experience.
• Facilitate clear and consistent communication between families and schools.
• Contact parents through phone calls, home visits, and or meetings to encourage their child's attendance in school
• Maintain documentation of activities, LEAP and student logs, and prepare reports as required.
• Develops an individual work plan, with quantifiable deliverables, that detail the Liaison role in the implementation of the schools’ goals and family/student engagement plan.
• Be part of the school's chronic absenteeism team and hosts conversations to remove barriers of chronic absenteeism including home visits, use of ParentSquare, school health services, and community resources.
• Work with other district liaisons to design and implement Family University-a year long offering of educational opportunities for families.
• Organize and support family nights, conferences, and other school-based events.
• Coordinates family resource nights with the Office of Family, School, and Community partnerships and community partners
• Performs other duties as required that is directed at supporting students attendance in school
  
  

Qualifications and Abilities:

• Fluent in Spanish and /or Portuguese
• Has good communication and problem solving skills.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the district’s school-family partnerships policy and regulation documents
• Knowledge of child growth and development and learning strategies to foster educational growth.
• Understand class and cultural backgrounds for families and the community and respect, ethnic, cultural and language diversity.
• Ability to employ tact, diplomacy, and sound judgement in dealing with sensitive issues and challenging situations.
• Know Danbury’s rich resources and understand families' cultural backgrounds.
• Candidate must be well-organized, flexible and a self-starter to maintain timelines and responsibilities.
• Participants in required professional development and activities to enhance skills.
• Possesses commuter skills in Word, Excel, Zoom, PowerSchool and Parent Square and other related databases.
• 2 years of experience working with families and communities in different capacities.
• 12 college credit in ECE desired.
• Ability to travel to home visits.
  
  

Working Conditions:

• Full time 32.5 hours per week.
• Scheduled in consultation with the school principal or Office of family, School and Community Partnerships for some evenings (5 per year) and weekend hours (3 per year).
• $20.00 hours/ member of the CSEA Paraeducator Union.
