POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Athletic and Activities Director (Prof/Supv-School/Home Coordinator)
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month employment
SUPERVISES: Certified and Classified Employees
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- A Collegiate Professional License with an endorsement at the appropriate level and/or a Post Graduate Professional License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision is preferred.
- A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years teaching experience preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience.
- Possess oral and written communication skills to work effectively with school personnel, students, parents, and community members.
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills.
- Possess appropriate computer technology skills
- Must have effective leadership skills and a demonstrated knowledge of school curriculum, operations, and school administration
FOCUS:
- The Athletic Director's primary responsibility is to serve as a school-based leader in the planning and implementation of all athletic and student activities at the high school and middle school programs. Assists the principal in developing curricular and instructional programs at the high school.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Organize and administer the extra-curricular, and co-curricular programs.
- Provide leadership in the selection, assignment, training, and evaluation of the head coaches and assigned staff members.
- Assume responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic events.
- Develop and place into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of interscholastic activities.
- Verify each athlete’s eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements for participation in each sport according to Board policy and VHSL guidelines.
- Prepares and administers the athletic and interscholastic budget.
- Arrange for athletic trainer and/or support for appropriate contests
- Coordinates with custodial and the Maintenance Department relative to facility upkeep and maintenance.
- Foster good community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the interscholastic and activity programs.
- Arranges transportation for interscholastic and activity events.
- Scheduling officials, and security, and coordinating with the building principals in arranging appropriate supervision of interscholastic events.
- Arrange field and gym practice and game schedules.
- Supervises all ticket sales and fundraising events.
- Act as tournament manager for all tournament playoff activities as assigned by the district, region, or Virginia High School League (VHSL).
- Coordinate all summer camp schedules.
- Assists with the supervision, training, and evaluation of teachers, sponsors, and coaches as assigned.
- Assist with daily operational functions for the school.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the principal and school administrative staff in supervision and support.
- Inform the principal and appropriate Central Office personnel of problems, progress, and plans in the building as they occur
- Support and participate in parent/community activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building Principal or Central Office Administrators
