POSITION SUMMARY:

The function of the Lead Grower is to participate in the growing of heathy plants, under the supervision of the Head Grower. This position will manage a section of plants and be responsible for providing direction to Growers and for the health of the plants in that section.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (comprehensive, but not limited to):

Plant Production:

· Assist in leading the growing team to produce plants that meet the specifications of our customers.

· Assess watering needs, hand water and adjust irrigation systems accordingly to maintain plant health.

· Work with Head Grower in learning the watering needs of all the houses.

Growing:

· Follow directions from Head Grower on crop treatment.

· Provide strategies for crop locations and fertilizer and pesticide applications.

· Test and track water and soil samples.

· Provide strong communication to the Growers, Head Grower, and Production Supervisor.

· Be proactive, prompt, and diligent in all crop activities.

· Pesticide Applicator license required.

Technical Support:

· Mix chemicals for growers. Reports chemical use and reports shortages to Head Grower for ordering.

· Mixes fertilizers as needed

· Confirms water storage availability on a regular basis and reports/repairs small issues such as leaks, valve adjustments, injector issues, and maintain proper flow.

· Organizes and assigns small repairs in greenhouses and tank room such as hoses, cleaning filters, cool wall issues, low voltage irrigation including pipe and valve repairs.

· Makes sure all greenhouses are clean as needed and remedies safety issues.

· Helps evaluate and correct any plant spacing issues

· Inspects houses daily for any safety issues, sanitation requirements, irrigation, inflation, poly plastic issues

· Responsible for maintaining spray equipment.

· Responsible for keeping storage tank house and Chemical Room clean and organized.

· Monitors all water pumps in green tank, red filter and chlorine injection areas for pressure, leaks and filter cleanings.

· Assists in pond filter cleaning scheduling and recording.

· Monitors heating and cooling units for needed maintenance, troubleshooting and/or repairs.

· Other responsibilities/tasks/projects as assigned.

Supervisory:

· Assist Head Grower to manage picking crews during shipping season including crew adjustment to maintain peak performance

· Provides direction to watering crews and chemical applicators per Head Grower.

· Provide work directions to growers on proper watering schedules.

· Supervise, train, and provide direction to other Growers.

· Provide input to Head Grower on performance issues and employee evaluations.

EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

· 5 years experience in greenhouse environment.

· Some Spanish speaking preferred.
