Position Summary & Objective:

The Camp Caretaker supports the care, upkeep, maintenance, and guest experience of the Dan Beard Scout Reservation, with particular attention to Cub World Adventure Camp. Working closely with the ranger staff, the caretaker helps ensure visitors receive a safe, clean and welcoming environment across grounds, showerhouses, program areas, dining and kitchen areas, and camping/bunk areas. The role frequently interacts with Scouts and volunteers, non-Scout renters, staff, donors and vendors, and embodies the welcoming spirit of Dan Beard Council, Scouting America.

Summary of Responsibilities:

1. Facility & Grounds Care: Perform routine maintenance, janitorial and groundskeeping; assist ranger staff on projects that keep facilities clean, safe, and visitor-ready.

2. Camp Brand & Presentation: Proactivey identify and work with ranger staff to address needs, capital maintenance, proper storage of equipment, dispose of trash, etc. Ensure visitors are receiving the quality experience from look, feel and use of camp.

3. Program Supplies and Support: Support camp staff and volunteers to keep program supplies organized, are well maintained, properly used and stored; support adherence to National Camp Accreditation Program requirements.

4. Customer Service: Greet guests of Dan Beard Scout Reservation. Support maintenance needs/requests as quickly and efficiently as possible. Build and maintain positive relationships with camp visitors and volunteers.

5. Campmaster Corps Adviser. Recruit, train, and schedule for volunteers who serve as Campmasters; act as Campmaster for check-in/out when a Campmaster is not present.

Measurements:

1. Complete tasks assigned by GM of Properties – ongoing

2. Campmaster Training 2x per year and 1-on-1 training – as needed

3. Camp Usage Policies are regularly updated and communicated – annually

4. Campmaster schedule built out at minimum 6-months ahead

5. Weekly reservation schedule sent to Rangers, Campmasters – each Wednesday

Qualifications:

1. High School diploma or equivilant required; some college coursework preferred.

2. Two plus years of facilty maintenance, grounds, or building projects experience.

3. Proficiency in Microsoft 365; ability to learn reservation platforms (Black Pug) and camp maintenance software (Fiix).

4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

5. Team-oriented with a commitment to organizational goals.

6. Ability to work some evening and regular weekend hours, in particular with summer camp and large-scale camp activities/events.

7. Must pass background check and adhere to Scouting America safeguarding youth policies.

8. Residence requirement: must live on site in the Cub World Adventure Camp residence (housing provided as in-kind support).

Compensation:

On-site housing at Cub World Adventure Camp (Miami Township, Ohio) with select utilities as specified in a written agreement in exchange for service hours (20 hours/week). No wages, overtime, or employee benefits are provided.
