Department: Dammeron Valley Fire & Rescue (DVFR)
Reports To: Battalion Chief, Wildland division
Classification: Seasonal part time
SUMMARY: Responsible for properly interpreting and applying applicable policies and procedures to the functions of the fire department related to wildlfire engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strong leadership abilities and work ethic
- Directs and participates in the operation of wildfires due to any cause
- Completes Crew Time Reports/Shift Tickets, and any paperwork associated with local or national wildfire deployments.
- Conducts fuels mitigation projects as requested
- Works safely, follows safe work practices, and identifies and reports unsafe work conditions.
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, other county departments, subordinates, contractors, and external government agencies.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned. An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed below.
- Strong communication skills.
- Valid driver's licenses
- Ability to pass drug screening and background check.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current in NWCG certified position of Engine Boss
- Current in NWCG certified ICT-5
- CPR, first aid
- Certified in stop the bleed course
- Certified NWCG S-190
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
May require frequent lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 125 pounds as necessary during emergency response; work requires grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities. Must successfully complete the Work Capacity Test (aka Pack Test) at an arduous level. Ability to carry up to 45-pound in a line pack and complete Fireline construction for up to 16-hours per day for up to four weeks during deployments.
