What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead SPD Technician position at Dameron Hospital?
The Lead Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department. This role provides leadership and guidance to SPD staff while performing essential functions such as decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment. The Lead Technician assists with scheduling, training, quality control, and helps ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. This is a non-union position.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing program preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in sterile processing required.
- Previous experience in a lead or preceptor role preferred.
Licenses/Certificates:
- CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) certification through HSPA or equivalent preferred.
- Oversees daily SPD workflow to ensure efficient and timely processing of instruments and trays.
- Assists in training and mentoring SPD Technicians and Aides.
- Serves as a resource for complex instrumentation and sterilization issues.
- Assists with scheduling and task assignments based on operational needs.
- Ensures all sterilization processes are performed according to current standards and guidelines.
- Monitors biological and chemical indicators, sterilizer logs, and quality control documentation.
- Collaborates with OR staff and other departments to ensure surgical case readiness.
- Participates in the orientation and ongoing education of SPD staff.
- Maintains adequate inventory of sterile supplies and notifies leadership of any shortages or equipment concerns.
- Ensures adherence to all Dameron Hospital policies, JCAHO standards, DHS regulations, and infection control practices.
- Demonstrates professionalism and service excellence through effective communication and teamwork.
- Supports the mission, vision, values, and conduct standards of Dameron Hospital Association.
- Willingly performs other duties as assigned or requested.
