VA North Texas Health Care System is actively recruiting for an Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care who will be responsible of the overall operation of Primary Care (including Women's Health and Tele-Health), Employee Occupational Health, Blind/Low Vision, and Compensation & Pension Unit. Ambulatory Care is aligned directly under the Chief of Staff.

Podiatrist Basic Requirements
  • Education: Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
  • Residency: Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
  • License: Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
Additional Requirement:
  • Board Certification, preferably in Family Practice or Internal Medicine; however, other specialties are acceptable.

Preferred Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and implementation of primary care delivery systems, optimizing patient care, and improving health outcomes.
  • Proven leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing multidisciplinary teams, fostering a collaborative environment, and driving organizational excellence.
  • Expertise in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety protocols, and the integration of evidence-based practices to enhance the delivery of primary care services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, essential for developing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, patients, and external stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of VA policies, regulations, and systems, or equivalent experience in a comparable healthcare setting, to effectively navigate and lead within the VA framework.
  • Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and a vision for advancing primary care services in alignment with the mission of the VA North Texas Health Care System.

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; Moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; Straight pulling (1-2 hours); Pushing (1-2 hours); reaching above shoulder; Walking (8 hours); Standing (8 hours); Kneeling (1 hour); Repeated bending (2 hours); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; Depth perception; Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of colors; Hearing (aid may be permitted).

Responsibilities:

This is an Open Continuous Announcement & will remain open until September 10, 2026, or until all positions are filled. The first cut-off date is April 30, 2026. ACOS/Ambulatory Care include, but are not limited to:
  • Reviews/performs/provides duties and responsibilities of a primary care physician/internist.
  • Exercises administrative, programmatic, clinical, and academic oversight of Ambulatory Care and programs to ensure delivery of quality services.
  • Demonstrates leadership in interpreting and supporting the VISN mission, vision and values, while operating in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) policies, facility and VISN policies, and standards of federal professional and accrediting agencies external to VHA.
  • Adheres to the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations as set forth by the medical staff.
  • Provides direction and support to Ambulatory Care staff regarding equipment technology, policies and procedures employed by VA North Texas Health Care System.
  • Ensures that all applicable requirements of regulatory agencies such as The Joint Commission are met.
  • Reviews quality control and quality improvement procedures performed by VA personnel in the Primary Care, Home Tele-health and Women Health Primary Care Service Line and makes recommendations for improvements, corrective actions, etc.
  • Participates/reviews and documents performance improvement activities, including, but not limited to, external review programs, internal peer review programs, and accreditation requirements.
  • Serves as an active member of various Medical Center committees.
  • Assists the Chief of Staff in the tracking, monitoring, reporting, supervision and oversight of physician productivity, service reports, and special requests for reports, supervision of clinical and administrative staff.
  • Works with onsite leadership on issues pertinent to the service; develops provider staffing models; directs the budgetary and fiscal management of the service; coordinates resource requests with the Chief of Staff for submission to top management; tracks workload.
  • Develops or directs the development of performance standards, evaluates the performance of key service Section Chiefs, and reviews the evaluations made by subordinate supervisors or other employees.
  • Directs patient care needs assessments; identifies gaps in services and supports program development to meet those needs.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 0800 - 1630; Occasional evening, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required.
