- Accessible to dispatcher or supervisor for daily assignments
- Assumes charge of the bus and passengers while the bus is in route and is responsible for the safety and conduct of those transported
- Maintains a good working relationship with the principals and maintains a disciplined decorum of the bus conducive to safety and protection of property
- Assists and instructs pupils in proper loading and unloading procedures
- Operates according to assigned schedules and routes
- Renders assistance, if needed, when the bus breaks down or is involved in an accident
- Makes neat, legible and accurate transportation records as required
- Reports discipline problems to the transportation supervisor and to the principal
- Covers routes and/or other runs as the supervisor or dispatcher directs
- Transports only authorized students and adult sponsors
- Maintains a clean bus externally and internally
- Reports maintenance problems to maintenance foreman in a timely manner
- Attends all required staff developments
- Demonstrates leadership with proper attendance and punctuality
- Follows the chain of command as noted in organizational policy
- Uses time wisely to ensure productivity and efficiency
- Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned)
- Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency) preferred
- At least 21 years of age
- Texas Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) with Passenger (P) and School (S) endorsements
- Must be able to drive a vehicle with Air-Brakes
- Type 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehicles
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam
- Meet all state (TEA) qualifications for school bus drivers
- Competency to complete required bus driver safety training
- Exceptional communications, public relations and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing Bilingual preferred
- minimum 1 year school bus driving experience
- Ability to driver multiple types of buses (Type A, B, C, D Bus)
- Trained in Special Needs Transportation, or willing to be trained within 30 days of employment
