What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant II (226 Days) position at Dallas Independent School District?
Under limited supervision, this position helps monitor the integrity and accuracy of general ledger transactions and communicate the need for research and correction, in addition to analyzing the financial information of the district and report trends and issues.
Monitor, reconcile, analyze, record, and make necessary adjustments to assigned accounting activities in compliance with policies of the district and the Texas Education Agency in order to provide accurate monthly financial reports and the Comprehensive Financial Report.
Provide direction and assistance to other departments and campuses regarding accounting policies, procedures, and efficient internal controls.
Review and reconcile all payroll-related transactions from the payroll subledger to the general ledger for Biweekly and monthly payroll.
Reconcile the pension scheme- Teachers Retirement Scheme (TRS), self-insured, workers' compensation, and district benefits accounts for the district
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for the District's payroll bank account and flexible spending bank account and coordinate with respective departments to ensure all outstanding items are resolved promptly.
This position may be subject to annual role rotation within the department. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in learning and performing new duties as organizational needs evolve.
Work closely with the General Ledger Manager /Assistant Director/Director/Executive Director and CFO to understand and maintain focus on their reporting needs and create moderately complex Oracle and/or Excel reports for reporting and analyzing information.
Prepare year-end financial statement notes and schedules assigned.
Assist the department in establishing, maintaining, and updating accounting procedures, processes, and internal controls.
Assist internal and external auditors when required.
Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting.
Four years of experience in accounting, and one year of experience with Oracle or other major enterprise software solutions. Basic knowledge of payroll accounting and bank reconciliations preferred.
Advanced knowledge of Governmental accounting is required.
Advanced knowledge in Excel is required, including the creation of spreadsheets, linked spreadsheets, using Functions, Macros, and creating Pivot Tables.
Ability to learn accounting rules fast and implement those in various accounting areas.
Ability to create a variety of moderately complex financial and compliance reports, including. subsidiary ledgers, reconciliations and other financial transaction summary reports.
Demonstrated knowledge of auditing, financial statement preparation and financial reporting.
Demonstrated ability to analyze data or information and identify trends or financial issues.
Ability to interpreting and communicating the meaning of information for others and to analyze financial data.
Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
