Application Development Specialist - Salary

The Application Development Specialist will work as a member of the I&D group to lead efforts regarding analytical services testing, test data reporting and be the lead scientist on lab testing requirements for new applications. This position also encompasses the responsibility to manage project work on I&D knowledge and expertise. The individual will play a key role in maintaining the department’s technical database and project status reporting.

The ultimate measure of this position’s success is commercialized products and applications through interfacing and communicating with DGA customers during the development process. As such, some travel will be required.

The successful candidate demonstrates intellectual curiosity and creative thinking by critically evaluating experimental results, questioning data that does not correlate with previous findings or established scientific principles, investigating potential causes for discrepancies, and developing practical, innovative solutions to complex technical and business challenges.

Responsibilities:

• Manage projects related to application development and product improvement through acting as project manager to coordinate support within the organization.
• Conduct and/or assign laboratory testing according to written methods and look for ways to further improve laboratory procedures.
• Responsible for the development of new or improved analytical application methods and validation of the methods. Further provide training in the new analytical application methods for transfer to the QC laboratory and keep track on accuracy and consistency.
• Manage and execute specific key development projects leading to new applications/processes. Such projects can frequently have long (> 1year) timescales and involve coordination of cross-site/cross-functional teams.
• Maintain a satisfactory policy for, and standard of, health and safety in the Jeffersonville facility.
• Plan and execute plant trial programs to establish new/improved products and applications.
• Maintenance of the technical data base.
• Manage work related to local restaurant partners to conduct field testing trials as necessary.
• Work with Technical services, Quality Control and Sales staff to help with field testing as required
• Team up with Engineering, Regulatory and Technical Sales.
• Strongly collaborate with the product development Director.
• Commit to complying with all plant policies and expectations regarding attendance, workplace conduct, and professional appearance.

Qualifications:

Educational and Experience Requirements

• B.S. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with commensurate scientific knowledge andexperimental experience.
• 7 years of laboratory experience, preferably with adsorbent and filtration technology and/or product development. Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Windows applications.
• Experience presenting technical data and recommendations to customers, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrated ability to independently design, prepare, coordinate, and execute laboratory tests and pilot trials, while analyzing and interpreting results with minimal
• supervision.
• Demonstrated critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to objectively evaluate experimental data, investigate unexpected or conflicting results, question findings that do not correlate with previous data or established scientific principles, and develop evidence-based conclusions and innovative solutions.
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Must possess personal initiative, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a cross-functional team.
• Ability to communicate results with appropriate interpretations, conclusions, recommendations, and supporting scientific rationale.
• Takes a hands-on approach to problem-solving and execution

Physical Requirements:

• Potential exposure to airborne contaminants may require the employee to wear
• respiratory protection.
• The employee will occasionally be required to enter process and raw material unloading areas. Access to these areas may require climbing stairs or ladders and traversing metal grid flooring.
• Normal dexterity is required for computer data entry, and occasional use of hand tools may be required for equipment adjustment or repair.
• The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work and to make general observations of facilities and equipment.
• Ability to travel to customer and prospective customer locations to support product evaluations, field trials, application development, and technical discussions as needed.
• Chromatography experience, especially HPSEC, is preferred.
• Experience with laboratory analytical (wet) chemistry techniques, including titrimetric, gravimetric, and colorimetric analysis.
