This role owns the technical strategy and execution of enterprise data and cloud engineering capabilities, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance platforms that support analytics, operational workloads, and emerging intelligent systems. Reporting to a senior technology leader, the position blends architectural leadership with hands-on technical oversight across hybrid and cloud-native environments.
The role leads a distributed team of engineers and delivery partners, setting engineering standards, driving automation, and ensuring operational excellence across data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and platform services. The focus is on building resilient, cost-efficient systems that enable rapid delivery while meeting security, reliability, and compliance expectations.
Core ResponsibilitiesData & Cloud ArchitectureDefine and evolve reference architectures for data platforms and cloud-based services
Lead design decisions across hybrid and cloud-native environments, including compute, storage, networking, and identity
Ensure architectures support scalability, fault tolerance, disaster recovery, and performance optimization
Oversee end-to-end data engineering lifecycle: ingestion, transformation, orchestration, storage, and consumption
Drive adoption of modern data engineering patterns (ELT, streaming, event-driven pipelines, metadata-driven design)
Establish standards for data modeling, versioning, testing, and deployment
Ensure platforms support analytical, operational, and real-time workloads
Lead cloud engineering practices including infrastructure-as-code, environment automation, and CI/CD pipelines
Establish observability standards covering monitoring, logging, alerting, and cost management
Ensure secure integration between on-premise and cloud environments
Drive platform reliability through SRE-inspired practices, automation, and runbook maturity
Embed security-by-design principles across data and cloud platforms
Partner with governance and risk functions to enforce access controls, encryption, lineage, and auditability
Ensure platforms meet internal policy, regulatory, and resiliency requirements
Build, mentor, and lead a geographically distributed team of engineers and technical leads
Set clear engineering expectations, technical KPIs, and delivery standards
Manage third-party vendors and delivery partners with strong accountability
Partner with enterprise architecture and application teams to ensure platform interoperability
Translate business and analytical requirements into scalable technical solutions
Communicate architectural decisions, trade-offs, and delivery progress to senior stakeholders
Evaluate and introduce emerging cloud, data, and automation technologies
Enable platforms for advanced analytics, intelligent automation, and model-driven workloads
Promote reuse, self-service, and platform-as-a-product thinking
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field
Extensive experience in data engineering, cloud engineering, or platform architecture roles
Proven track record designing and operating large-scale data platforms in cloud or hybrid environments
Strong understanding of:
Distributed data processing and storage systems
Cloud networking, identity, and security models
Infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD practices
Data reliability, reconciliation, and observability patterns
Experience supporting regulated, high-availability, or mission-critical systems
Ability to operate at both architectural and implementation levels
Strong systems thinking and problem-solving skills
Bias toward automation, reliability, and repeatability
Comfortable making trade-offs between speed, cost, and risk
Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences
High standards for engineering quality and operational maturity
