Our client is a successful endowment in the NYC area and they are seeking a 4-10 year Controller to join their team. The Controller will be a key member of a small, collaborative team responsible for overseeing accounting, financial reporting, audit coordination, and governance support for an endowment portfolio and related entities. This role requires a hands-on professional with a continuous improvement mindset and strong attention to detail. This position will offer up to $160K base, depending on level and relevant experience, plus bonus potential.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, financial statement preparation, invoice processing, and expense management
- Coordinate and review work performed by third-party accounting providers, including financial statements, expense allocations, and investor reporting
- Lead audit and tax coordination with external firms
- Identify financial reporting risks and recommend mitigation strategies
- Provide guidance on accounting standards and ensure appropriate processes and controls are implemented
- Support governance processes, including preparation of materials and documentation for key stakeholder meetings
- Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Manage vendor relationships and contribute to operational improvements
- Participate in special projects and broader endowment management initiatives
- Minimum 4 years of relevant accounting experience within a fund/endowment, or foundation environment
- Collaborative, proactive, and willing to take ownership of responsibilities
- Knowledge of asset allocation and alternative investments preferred
- Experience with financial systems and reporting tools (e.g., investment accounting platforms, QuickBooks, CRM systems)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Office Suite
- Bachelor’s degree required; CPA strongly preferred
Salary : $160,000
