Mainframe Application Development Support Specialist

• 1-year contract role with our end client
• Must be available to work a hybrid schedule - Mon/Fri remote, Tues - Thurs on site in Columbia, SC

Notes:

• Mainframe application support role (approximately 60% JCL); not a distributed (Java/Web) position
• COBOL used to assist the programming team with troubleshooting
• Serve as SME to identify long-running programs and inefficient queries, and research and resolve issues with customers
• Query Skills (in priority order): 1. DB2 (primary); 2. SQL (secondary), 3. IMS (a plus)
• Support initiatives to expose mainframe data to other platforms
• Work directly with customers to identify what's working and what isn't in current developer tools and processes

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Day to Day

• Provide day-to-day support for application development teams utilizing mainframe development tools and utilities
• Assist developers with troubleshooting development, testing, and implementation issues
• Support code promotion, testing, and deployment activities
• Partner with customers to identify process improvements and development efficiencies
• Participate in modernization initiatives focused on improving developer productivity
• Assist in maintaining development support documentation, standards, and procedures
• Support application-level security administration and access requests as needed
• Participate in vendor tooling initiatives, upgrades, and support activities
• Assist with Disaster Recovery exercises and business continuity activities

Required Skills

• JCL
• Security Reporting (using SORT/SyncSort)
• Query skills (DB2/SQL/IMS)

Nice to Have

• Source Control (GitHub, Endevor, IBM DBB, ChangeMan)
• FreezeFrame or DumpMaster
• COBOL programming

Not Looking For

• Distributed programming support (Java/Web)
