Commissioning Manager – Data Center Construction

Role Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities for a large-scale data center construction project in Oklahoma. This critical leadership role will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of all commissioning phases, ensuring complex mission-critical systems are tested, validated, and handed over in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and operational requirements.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience commissioning mission-critical facilities, including data centers, and possess a strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, controls, and integrated systems. This individual will work closely with project teams, contractors, consultants, and end users to ensure a seamless transition from construction to operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the complete commissioning process from design review through final handover.
- Develop and implement commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, and testing protocols.
- Coordinate commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), controls, and life safety systems.
- Review design documents to ensure systems are commissionable and aligned with operational requirements.
- Oversee factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), integrated systems testing (IST), and final performance validation.
- Manage third-party commissioning agents, subcontractors, vendors, and consultants.
- Monitor commissioning progress and proactively resolve technical issues that may impact project delivery.
- Ensure all testing documentation, deficiency tracking, and closeout records are maintained accurately.
- Collaborate with construction, quality, and operations teams to achieve successful project turnover.
- Support client witness testing and ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Drive safety, quality, and operational excellence throughout all commissioning activities.
- Provide regular reporting on commissioning status, risks, and milestones to senior project leadership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
- 4 years of commissioning experience within mission-critical environments.
- Proven experience delivering commissioning activities on hyperscale or enterprise data center projects.
- Strong understanding of critical electrical infrastructure including:
- Medium and low-voltage distribution systems
- UPS systems
- Generators
- Switchgear and protection systems
- Power monitoring systems
- Strong understanding of critical mechanical systems including:
- Chilled water systems
- CRAH/CRAC units
- Cooling towers
- Pumps and heat rejection systems
- Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Experience managing Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and Level 1–5 commissioning processes.
- Familiarity with commissioning standards and industry best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and sequence of operations documents.
- Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities within fast-paced construction environments.
- Willingness to work full-time on-site and support project schedules, including critical testing periods.
- Data center, mission-critical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing commissioning experience preferred.
