What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ready Mix Driver position at Dakota Red Corporation?
SUMMARY: Responsible for delivering ready mixed concrete and other associated products from batch plants to job sites in a safe and efficient manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Safely load and promptly deliver ready mixed concrete to job sites as dispatched while maintaining positive customer service interactions. You are an ambassador of our brand and represent the company while driving our vehicle.
- Effectively operate ready mixed concrete truck by consistently following safety standards, delivery instructions and roadway signs for best routes to job sites.
- Performs regular maintenance and cleaning inside of concrete drum as required.
- Prepares truck for delivery and delivers product to job sites following USDOT and IDOT regulations.
- Rinses chutes and rear of truck free of spilled concrete and returns truck to batch plant following EPA and IDNR regulations.
- Assists in concrete block molds and production.
- Treats job site personnel with a customer friendly attitude. Addresses concerns in a professional manner. Communicates customer needs back to batch plant in a respectful manner.
- Performs pre-trip vehicle safety inspection and reports findings to dispatch at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Work all scheduled shifts as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education, experience, and skills:
- Maintain a culture of safety.
- Maintaining a Commercial Driver’s License and maintaining it according to Federal Safety Regulations.
- Maintain a good driving record to maintain insurability.
- Must be knowledgeable about and follow all relevant USDOT, IDOT, environmental, and traffic laws.
- Must have appropriate heavy truck drivers training and understand the specific operating functions and controls for a ready mixed concrete truck.
- Ability to take instructions, understand roadway signs, and follow directed routes.
- Ability to understand written safety guidelines, job orders, and performance standards
Physical, mental, and environmental requirements: This is a high energy and mentally demanding position. Daily problem solving is needed using specifications and interpersonal skills. Must be able to climb in and out of the truck several times per shift along with climbing the ladder to check product and drum. Shifting gears requires coordination of hands and feet. Must be able to pull down main chute on truck, attach up to three additional chutes weighing more than 50 pounds, guide chutes as needed, and clean and lift chute from ground to return chute to its stored position. Regular walking, standing, climbing, reaching, grasping, pulling, pushing, and lifting activities are required for this position. Most work is performed outdoors or in a truck which is subject to seasonal Midwest weather conditions (summer heat and winter cold). Rough, muddy, or icy job sites or roadways must be tolerated. Interstate, state, county, city, and private roadway travel is necessary. Safe truck operations must always be a priority. The environment also includes varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust, and dirt at operating sites.
