The Role
We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Quality Engineer to lead our efforts in driving product and process quality throughout the development lifecycle and ongoing production. This role is responsible for implementing robust quality engineering practices, ensuring compliance with customer and industry requirements, and partnering cross‑functionally to eliminate defects and improve overall performance. This position is based on-site at our Kansas City, KS facility and reports to the Quality Manager as part of the Plant Operations team.

We are seeking a strategic and dynamic Quality Engineer to lead our efforts in driving product and process quality throughout the development lifecycle and ongoing production. This role is responsible for implementing robust quality engineering practices, ensuring compliance with customer and industry requirements, and partnering cross‑functionally to eliminate defects and improve overall performance. What You’ll Do
Quality Engineering & APQP:
- Establish quality engineering disciplines during product development phases to ensure quality objectives are achieved.
- Engineer, document, communicate, and implement required quality deliverables in alignment with internal procedures, customer specifications, and industry standards (AIAG, IATF, etc.).
- Maintain and report APQP status, highlighting risks or issues that may impact quality or financial performance.
- Develop, maintain, and update PPAP/APQP documentation to meet customer and AIAG requirements.
- Ensure applicable team members are trained on PPAP/APQP documentation and facilitate communication of updates across shifts.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers on quality‑related issues, ensuring timely communication and resolution.
- Interface with suppliers to address quality concerns, monitor performance, and validate corrective actions.
- Review, disposition, and document supplier sample submissions for new or changed materials.
- Maintain and revise Core Tools, including Control Plans, PFMEAs, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Process Flow Diagrams—especially when driven by corrective actions.
- Coordinate and prepare all required documentation for customer submissions, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Attend Change Control meetings and provide updates on assigned systems.
- Document all quality engineering activities as required by internal procedures and standards.
- Lead structured problem‑solving efforts (8D, DMAIC, etc.) for internal, customer, and supplier quality issues.
- Ensure compliance with the Business Operating System and supporting documentation throughout all quality activities.
- Monitor and support supplier corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and manage the daily activities of the Quality Coordinator, as assigned.
- Support organizational quality objectives and contribute to achieving productivity, compliance, and customer satisfaction goals.
- Follow all company safety guidelines, including Emergency Evacuation procedures.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Engineering, or a related field. ASQ Certified Quality Engineer preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an automotive manufacturing environment in roles such as Quality Inspector or Quality Supervisor.
- At least 1 year of experience supporting both supplier and customer quality engineering activities.
- Minimum 1 year of experience with APQP for new product launches in the automotive industry.
- Demonstrated proficiency in root cause analysis and completion of corrective actions.
- Strong working knowledge of Automotive Core Tools, including PPAP, SPC, FMEA, MSA, APQP, and Control Plans.
- Competency in metrology, blueprint/drawing interpretation, statistical analysis, and color/appearance measurement.
- Experience performing color and/or appearance testing and approvals for product inspections.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding products, services, processes, and proprietary information.
- Normal amount of sitting and standing, average mobility to move around an office and plant environment, able to conduct normal amount of work on a computer.
- Up to 15% of travel required
- Valid driver’s license required
