Job Description
Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital is seeking an experienced PCU/Intermediate Care Registered Nurse for a rapid start, 4-week assignment on the day shift. RNs will join the Resource Float Team and support the Progressive Care Unit (R4), caring for a wide range of high-acuity adult patients needing closer monitoring.
This position requires strong cardiac, telemetry, and drip experience, along with schedule flexibility and EPIC proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Provide intermediate-level care to adult patients with cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and post-procedural needs.
- Manage the following:
- Telemetry monitoring
- Insulin drips
- Cardiac drips
- Post-cardiac cath patients
- Starting IVs, venipuncture, EKGs
- Monitoring post-stent or sheath patients
- Respond to and manage patients with:
- ACS
- Heart failure
- Hypotension/hemodynamic instability
- Thrombolytic therapy
- ETOH withdrawal
- Bipap/CPAP respiratory compromise
- Float first to appropriate units as part of the Resource Float Team.
- Work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Eve, New Year’s/Eve).
- Document in EPIC EMR and administer medications through MAK.
RequirementsExperience
- Minimum 1 year of PCU/Intermediate Care experience
- Minimum 1 year of Telemetry required
- Epic experience within the past 2 years is REQUIRED (non-negotiable)
- Must have experience with cardiac drips, starting IVs, and insulin drips
Licenses & Certifications
- Active RN license (NYS required at time of submission)
- AHA BLS
- AHA ACLS
- NIHSS (required before start)
Additional Requirements
- Must start within 2 weeks
- No block scheduling
- All work history (bed counts, EMR, facility type) must be fully documented
- Must explain all gaps over 90 days
- Flexible to float
- Reliable transportation required (public transit is NOT available)
- Winter tires recommended Nov–Apr
