Job Description
Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital (CVPH) is seeking an experienced Emergency Room RN for a 4-week rapid-response contract on the Evening shift (3p–3a). CVPH is a high-volume community hospital with a Level III Trauma Center and a busy 29-bed emergency department.
This role requires strong clinical skills, the ability to manage higher patient ratios, and EPIC experience within the past 2 years.
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency nursing care to patients across the lifespan (neonate to geriatric).
- Work in a high-acuity, fast-paced community ED with fluctuating census.
- Manage patient assignments up to 1:5, sometimes higher based on volume.
- Care for psych patients, boarded patients (M/S, LTC, psych, COVID), and general ED population.
- Perform IV starts, EKGs, respiratory treatments, and administer drips.
- Collaborate with crisis clinicians (day/evening), PCTs, and advanced practice providers.
- Follow zero-tolerance policy for cell phones or earbuds during work.
- Work required weekends and holidays (must work 2 of the 3: Thanksgiving, Christmas/Eve, New Year’s/Eve).
RequirementsExperience
- Minimum 1 year of recent Emergency Room experience
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required
- Charge experience preferred
Licenses & Certifications
- Active RN license (NYS license must be on file at submission)
- AHA BLS
- AHA ACLS
- AHA PALS
- NIHSS (must be complete prior to start)
- TNCC (active or proof of class must be included at submission)
Epic Requirement
- EPIC experience within the last 2 years is required and non-negotiable
Additional Requirements
- Must start within 2 weeks
- No block scheduling allowed
- Work history must include bed counts, EMR, and facility type
- All employment gaps >90 days must be explained
- Reliable transportation required (no public transit in area)
- Winter/snow tires strongly recommended November–April

- 7-bed Fast Track, can swing to ER
- Trauma Level: III
- Orientation: 20–24 hours depending on contract length
- Ancillary Support:
- CNAs/PCTs: multiple shifts
- Unit Secretary: 1
- Crisis Clinician: days/evenings
- Advanced Practice Providers: typically 3, staggered 8a–11p
- Special Equipment:
- Alaris IV pumps
- Phillips MP40 monitors
- Respiratory & anesthesia available 24/7
