Job SummarySky Lakes Medical Center is seeking an experienced PACU Registered Nurse to join our fast-paced Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Phase I and Phase II recovery, demonstrate excellent critical-thinking skills, and uphold ASPAN recovery standards. This role requires collaboration, flexibility, and a strong commitment to patient safety, quality outcomes, and teamwork.Key Responsibilities
- Provide Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery care for surgical patients.
- Monitor patients emerging from anesthesia, including airway, hemodynamics, pain control, and overall stabilization.
- Interpret and monitor cardiac rhythms; identify and report abnormal findings.
- Administer medications and treatments per provider orders and facility protocols.
- Collaborate closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, RT, pharmacy, and interdisciplinary staff.
- Manage ventilators (840s and travel vents) and troubleshoot as needed (RT typically manages).
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic EMR.
- Support safe patient transfers to inpatient units such as ICU when indicated.
- Ensure strict adherence to ASPAN guidelines and safety protocols.
- Float to Admitting, Phase I, or Phase II as needed.
- Participate in weekend, holiday, and weekday call rotations.
- Maintain proficiency in emergency response, rapid stabilization, and airway support.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork, professionalism, and the ability to work effectively in a busy PACU environment.

- Beds: 6 beds (Phase I), 10 beds (Phase II)
- Ratios: 1:1 (per ASPAN guidelines)
- Charge Nurse: Yes—may take a patient assignment if necessary
- Nurse Aides: None
- Floating: Admitting, Phase I, Phase II
- Common Cases Recovered:
ENT (peds included), urology, orthopedics, general surgery, GYN, endoscopy, eyes, dental (peds).
- ICU Recovery: ICU patients are recovered in the ICU.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years RN experience (PACU preferred).
- Valid and active RN license (state requirement applies).
- Proficient in PACU recovery (Phase I & II).
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips.
- Strong assessment and critical-thinking skills.
- Must work well in a highly collaborative team environment.
Required Certifications
- BLS – Basic Life Support
- ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
