What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Learning Center Substitute Teacher position at DA Brand?
Reporting to the Director, the substitute teacher is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher with the program activities, monitoring the children, and the required maintenance and cleaning of the classroom and supplies.
Primary Duties and Responsibility
- Assist Lead Teacher with classroom and project tasks as assigned
- Assist teaching team with maintaining a clean and safe environment for the children
- Assist with toileting as needed, according to Center policies and practices, in a sanitary and safe manner
- Assist with serving snack and lunch, maintaining safe food handling policies and practices

- Relate to and interact with the children in a way that promotes their development of self-esteem and self-discipline
- Ability to role model appropriate behavior for the children
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and neutrality about the children and their families
- Other duties as requested
Job Specifications
- High School Diploma required
- 1 year experience working with young children
- Must demonstrate experience and an interest in working with young children
- Must have some knowledge of early childhood development
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Ability to establish a rapport with other teaching team members and the children
- Ability to follow directions
- Willingness to serve as a mandated reporter
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community;
Physical Job Demands
- Ability to frequently move quickly
- Ability to frequently walk, stand, and stoop
- Ability to frequently lift and carry children weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to interact with children on the floor for extended periods of time
- Frequent close visual acuity to view a computer terminal, manage data and figures, and read
- Ability to frequently sustain substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers
Working Conditions
The worker is subject to environmental conditions both inside and outside a building, similar to a home environment for young children, with indoor and outdoor spaces and young child-sized obstacles to navigate
