Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS- grade 11level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.
- Facility Security Officer (FSO), Special Security Officer (SSO), or Contractor Special Security Officer (CSSO) experience, to include managing the day-to-day operations of a SCIF and preparing facilities for physical security inspections and accreditations,
- Submitting, reviewing, or adjudicating federal security clearance packages,
- Developing and delivering formal training presentations to adult learners or staff,
- Ensuring classified computer networks comply with government cybersecurity regulations and
- Leading or participating in security incident investigations.
NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.

You will serve as a/an SECURITY SPECIALIST (SPECIAL SECURITY OFFICER) and be responsible for .
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
- The SSO provides SCI security oversight to include; personnel security, physical security, Information Assurance Management (IAM) and facilities and resource management
- Reviews requests for security clearances, evaluating the sensitivity classification of the position by approved need-to-know principles and pertinent security guidelines
- Leads a staff of at least two military members: a First Class Petty Officer (IT1) who is the Information Special Security Officer (ISSO) and may lead a Second or Third Class Petty Officer (IS2/IS3) who is the Assistant Special Security Officer (ASSO)
- Conducts SCI security briefings, indoctrinations and debriefings; obtains signed nondisclosure Statements; and performs other related personnel security actions
