Farmworker Transportation Operator

D & J and Sons Harvesting, Inc.
New Era, MI Temporary
POSTED ON 4/14/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/29/2026
The Worker will primarily transport farmworkers between housing and work sites, ensuring the safe and timely arrival of employees. This includes operating buses and other authorized vehicles in compliance with all State and Federal regulations. When performing driving duties, the worker must maintain all required licenses and authorizations applicable to the type of vehicle operated, including a valid and unexpired Federal Farm Labor Contractor (FFLC) or FFLC Employee (FFLCE) registration with driving authorization, when required. Transportation duties will constitute approximately 50 percent of the workday. In addition to driving responsibilities, the worker will operate agricultural machinery and equipment to support field production, including tractors, irrigation systems, and machinery used for tilling, planting, cultivating, spraying, and harvesting crops. The worker will monitor equipment performance, perform minor mechanical adjustments, conduct routine maintenance, and report any malfunctions to supervisors. Equipment operation duties will constitute approximately 40 percent of the workday. Workers will also perform manual agricultural labor as needed to support crop production, including hand-harvesting crops such as asparagus, apples, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, cucumbers, squash, and pumpkins; pruning trees; thinning fruit; and general field maintenance. Manual harvesting and labor duties will constitute approximately 10 percent of the workday. All work is performed under the direction of a supervisor. The worker must be able to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, perform repetitive movements such as bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching, and lift items weighing up to 100 pounds as necessary for specific tasks. The employer will provide all necessary tools and equipment at no cost to the worker. Any deductions for damaged tools will comply with applicable law and require written authorization. The employer may, at its discretion, pay wages above the stated AEWR based on individual performance, experience, or tenure. The primary function of this position is the safe and efficient transport of farmworkers to and from worksites, with secondary duties in agricultural equipment operation and manual crop harvesting. The worker must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather (including heat, cold, and light rain) and be in possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance to work quickly and skillfully with their hands repeatedly at a sustained pace to meet the production standards demonstrated by the supervisor. The employer will provide all necessary tools and equipment at no charge to the worker. However, the employer may deduct the reasonable cost of damages or replacement of such tools if the loss or repair results from the worker's willful neglect or gross negligence; such deductions will only occur after the damage has taken place and after obtaining the employee's written authorization. At its sole discretion, the employer may pay a higher wage rate than the stated AEWR to any worker based on individual performance, specialized experience, or tenure with the operation. This voluntary higher pay is intended to reward performance and does not alter the fundamental entry-level nature of the job requirements.
