If you want to turn operational experience into enterprise-wide improvement and help shape how DLA captures, analyzes, and applies lessons learned across global logistics operations, we would love to talk.

Why This Role Exists

The work we do has real impact, and the people behind it matter just as much.

D&G is seeking a Lessons Learned Specialist to support the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Joint Lessons Learned Program (JLLP) under DLA J352 in Richmond, VA. This role supports the collection, analysis, management, and dissemination of lessons learned data from DLA operations, exercises, and deployments across the enterprise.

This is a hands-on position requiring travel to exercises and field activities, direct engagement with military and civilian stakeholders, and the ability to operate independently in dynamic environments while producing analytical products that drive measurable operational improvement.

What You Will Do

  • Collect, aggregate, analyze, curate, categorize, and disseminate lessons learned and observations from DLA operations, exercises, training events, and real-world deployments.
  • Develop and execute collection plans using active and passive information collection methodologies.
  • Conduct pre-deployment, mid-tour, and post-deployment interviews to capture personnel insights and observations.
  • Apply statistical analysis and analytical tools, including AI-enabled methods, to validate findings, identify trends, and support data-driven recommendations.
  • Participate in 3–4 Tier 1/Tier 2 exercises annually across CONUS and OCONUS locations, providing on-site JLLP training, data collection, and analytical support.
  • Support 2 Joint Training Conferences (3–4 days each) and up to 10 site visits annually to DLA Major Subordinate Commands, Regional Commands, or Headquarters.
  • Develop written analytical products including issue summaries, insights, solution recommendations, white papers, briefings, After-Action Reports (AARs), and quarterly newsletters.
  • Manage DLA JLLIS accounts, including approval, deactivation, updates, and monthly reporting.
  • Deliver JLLIS training and user support in both in-person and virtual environments.
  • Support the DLA Joint Lessons Learned Working Group through agenda preparation, coordination, minutes, and reporting.
  • Prepare observations for presentation in memos, quad charts, and executive briefing formats.
  • Interface daily with DLA and non-DLA stakeholders to ensure data consistency and accuracy.
  • Prepare and submit Monthly Status Reports documenting progress, issues, and planned activities.
  • Collaborate with Joint Staff J-7, Services, Combatant Commands, and Combat Support Agencies on JLLP best practices.
