_ Steel Fabrication Quality Control Inspector/Technician_

Responsibilities:

  • Inspection of Incoming Materials: Conduct thorough inspections of incoming steel materials, including plates, beams, pipes, and fittings, to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Dimensional Inspection: Perform dimensional checks on fabricated steel components using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to verify accuracy and adherence to engineering drawings.
  • Visual Inspection: Conduct visual inspections of welded joints, surface finishes, and coatings to identify defects such as cracks, porosity, corrosion, and other imperfections.
  • Welding Inspection: Inspect welded connections and welder qualifications to ensure compliance with welding procedures, codes, and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX).
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): Coordinate and oversee non-destructive testing methods such as ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), and radiographic testing (RT) as required. Maintain accurate records of inspection results, including inspection reports, test certificates, and material traceability documentation.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Investigate and analyze quality issues or non-conformities, identify root causes, and work with production teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with production and engineering teams to establish and maintain quality control procedures, work instructions, and inspection criteria.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality control processes, reduce rework, and improve overall efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Additional education or certification in welding inspection (e.g., CWI, CSWIP) or quality management is preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in quality control or inspection within a steel fabrication or manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and welding symbols. Familiarity with welding processes, metallurgy, and fabrication techniques.
  • Certifications: Certification in non-destructive testing methods (e.g., UT, MT, PT, RT) is an advantage.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and accuracy in conducting inspections and documenting findings.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for reporting inspection results and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions in a timely manner.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with production personnel, supervisors, engineers, and third-party inspectors to achieve quality objectives.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements

Hard Hats: All personnel working in the steel fabrication warehouse must wear ANSI-approved hard hats to protect against head injuries from falling objects, overhead hazards, and impacts.

Safety Glasses: ANSI-approved safety glasses with side shields are mandatory to protect against flying debris, sparks, and other eye hazards generated during cutting, welding, grinding, and fabrication processes.

Ear Plugs or Ear Muffs: Hearing protection devices, such as disposable foam earplugs or earmuffs, should be worn in areas where noise levels exceed permissible limits to prevent hearing damage from machinery and equipment noise.

Work Gloves: ANSI-rated work gloves made from leather, Kevlar, or other durable materials should be worn to protect hands from cuts, abrasions, burns, and punctures during handling of sharp steel edges, welding operations, and material handling tasks.

Steel-Toe Boots: Sturdy steel-toe boots or safety shoes with puncture-resistant soles are required to protect feet from heavy objects, sharp metal edges, falling materials, and crushing hazards present in the steel fabrication environment.

By adhering to these PPE requirements and safety guidelines, employees can minimize the risk of workplace injuries and ensure a safer working environment in the steel fabrication warehouse.

As a Quality Control Inspector, you will be instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of quality in our manufacturing processes. With core skills in quality audits, inspection, and analysis, you will be responsible for conducting thorough quality control assessments and implementing quality assurance measures. Your premium skills in ISO standards, FDA regulations, and precision measuring instruments will be essential in maintaining compliance and upholding quality systems. Leveraging your relevant skills in data collection, vision inspection systems, and calibration tools, you will play a critical role in identifying and addressing quality issues to drive continuous improvement and product excellence.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
