Communications Strategist - Onsite in Rockville, MD
Scope of Work:
Overview:
We are seeking a strategic and savvy Communication Lead to support our Chief Information Officer (CIO) and broader IT leadership team. This role will play a critical part in translating complex strategies into clear, compelling messaging for a wide range of stakeholders, from client members and executive leadership to employees and residents.
As a trusted advisor to the CIO, you will be responsible for shaping our departmental voice across the organization, enhancing transparency, supporting change management efforts, and elevating the CIO's presence internally and externally.
Key Responsibilities:
Executive Communications:
" Draft speeches, presentations, talking points, emails, and other communications for the CIO.
" Support the CIO in delivering thought leadership content, such as presentations, panel materials, and talking points.
" Articulate cost savings, return on investment, and other value advantages of IT innovation and services in non-technical, compelling narratives
Strategic Messaging & Alignment:
" Translate complex IT strategies, digital transformation initiatives, and technology roadmaps into accessible narratives for non-technical audiences.
" Ensure consistent messaging across the IT department.
Internal & Enterprise Communication:
" Develop and execute communication strategies that drive awareness, understanding, and engagement around IT initiatives.
" Support communication planning for technology rollouts, policy changes, and system upgrades as directed by the CIO.
Crisis & Incident Communication:
" Partner with appropriate stakeholders to manage messaging during high-impact incidents.
" Prepare timely and transparent updates for leadership and employees during crises.
Executive Stakeholder Reporting:
" Prepare briefing materials, decks, and reports for executive-level and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications:
" 5 years of experience in corporate communications, branding, executive communications, or strategic communications ideally supporting senior technology leadership.
" Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editing skills able to adjust tone and complexity for different audiences.
" Proven ability to communicate complex technical and business concepts clearly.
" Experience in large, matrixed organizations and working with C-level executives.
" Background in IT, digital transformation, or enterprise technology is strongly preferred.
" Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Bonus Skills:
" Experience with change management communications (e.g., PROSCI, ADKAR frameworks)
" Familiarity with ITIL or Agile methodologies
" Knowledge of enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, cloud platforms, cybersecurity)
