Schedule: Varies. M-Th, 06:00-16:30 with additional hours as necessary.

Summary:
The Inventory Planning Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all materials planning, inventory control, and parts distribution functions within our railcar maintenance facility. This role ensures that all components are available to support timely and efficient railcar repairs and maintenance operations while minimizing excess inventory and controlling costs..
Essential Duties and Responsibilities are but are not limited to:
- Maintain accurate inventory plans for railcar parts, components, consumables, and tools based on maintenance schedules, project forecasts, and historical usage.
- Monitor stock levels, track usage trends, and identify slow-moving or obsolete materials to optimize storage and reduce waste.
- Collaborate with purchasing and vendors to ensure timely delivery of parts and materials while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
- Partner with shop supervisors, planners, and mechanics to anticipate material needs and prevent downtime due to shortages or delays.
- Prepare regular reports on inventory accuracy, turns, and KPIs for management review.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in; Business, Logistics, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3–5 years of experience in inventory planning, warehouse operations, or supply chain roles.
- Prior experience in industrial, railcar, or heavy equipment maintenance environments strongly preferred.
- Experience with ERP or maintenance management systems.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Proven leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of inventory management and best practices and safety standards.
- General mechanical knowledge and use of shop tools and equipment is desirable

- Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Understand and have working knowledge of Inventory software, knowledge of inventory management and best practices and safety standards.

- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and safetey-toe work boots.
Environmental:
- Frequently works in and around warehouse, active railcar repair shop, and outdoor yard areas.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- May be exposed to industrial noise, dust, fumes, and odors typical of railcar repair operations.
- Must adhere to safety protocols in environments where heavy machinery and hazardous materials are present.
