The Industrial Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support to production operations by improving manufacturing processes, equipment, and systems to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance. This role leads process improvement initiatives, supports capital projects, develops manufacturing standards, and collaborates cross-functionally to optimize plant operations. The Industrial Engineer serves as a technical resource for production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams while driving continuous improvement throughout the facility.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support to manufacturing operations through the continuous improvement of production equipment, processes, and manufacturing systems.
- Lead and coordinate process improvement projects involving Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, and Production personnel.
- Develop capital project objectives, prepare project specifications, create equipment layouts, obtain vendor quotations, and develop business case proposals including project costs, benefits, schedules, and spending plans.
- Manage project execution by tracking progress, coordinating resources, resolving issues, and implementing corrective actions to meet project objectives and timelines.
- Support the setup, operation, and implementation of new manufacturing equipment and processes, including employee training and production startup activities.
- Develop and maintain Standard Work Instructions using Microsoft Office applications and established company templates for equipment setup, operation, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Design and implement quick changeover methods, tooling improvements, and SMED principles to reduce setup times and increase manufacturing flexibility.
- Analyze manufacturing methods and identify opportunities to reduce direct labor, indirect labor, setup time, and overall production costs.
- Identify, recommend, and coordinate implementation of productivity and profit improvement initiatives.
- Evaluate current material handling methods and recommend improved processes, equipment, and facility layouts to enhance efficiency and workflow.
- Apply work measurement techniques to establish, validate, and improve production standards and labor performance metrics.
- Support the development and implementation of safe manufacturing practices and engineering solutions that improve workplace safety.
- Utilize statistical problem-solving techniques and data analysis to identify root causes, improve process capability, and support quality initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong working relationships across all departments.
- Support plant quality objectives and continuous improvement initiatives that improve operational performance and customer satisfaction.
- Support plant safety programs and ensure engineering projects comply with all applicable safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Comply with all company policies and applicable corporate, local, state, and federal regulations.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology with relevant manufacturing experience will also be considered.
Experience
- One to three years of manufacturing or industrial engineering experience preferred.
- Internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing environment is beneficial for entry-level candidates.
