What are the responsibilities and job description for the Growth Marketing Manager position at Cyphr?
Company Description
Cyphr builds intelligence infrastructure that helps institutions understand, evaluate, and support the businesses that power their communities. The company focuses on both new founders and established Main Street businesses, which together represent the vast majority of the American economy yet lack a shared system for consistent evaluation.
Cyphr’s mission is to create a universal language of business behavior so capital can flow more effectively to entrepreneurs and ecosystems that drive economic growth. By rethinking how readiness, risk, and economic value are measured, and embedding this logic into the workflows of governments, lenders, and ecosystem leaders, Cyphr aims to make business evaluation as simple and accessible as checking a credit score—while being more accurate and inclusive. The company is building the foundation for the future of economic mobility, capital deployment, and ecosystem intelligence.
Role Description
We're hiring our first marketing lead to build the public voice of the company, the category around it, and the demand that feeds our sales motion.
This is a builder's role, not a maintenance role. You'll be creating things that don't exist yet - a point of view, a research practice, a presence at the events where our buyers already gather. If you want an established playbook and a team to run it, this isn't the seat. If you want to define how an emerging category gets talked about, it is. This role will contribute to reporting, forecasting, and continuous improvement of Cyphr’s marketing operations.
Marketing and demand
- Develop and publish original research and analysis for an audience of economic development officials, small business support organizations, and community lenders
- Build our executive visibility program - bylined writing, speaking, panels, podcasts
- Run our social channels, company and founder, as distribution for a point of view rather than a calendar to fill
- Own our public surface: website, messaging, sales collateral, brand voice
- Plan and produce convenings, roundtables and conference presence
- Work with a research analyst to turn data into publishable insight
Partnerships and Capital Access Centers
- Develop marketing partnerships with entrepreneur support organizations, accelerators, CDFIs, banks and public agencies
- Build the top of the funnel for our Capital Access Center program (host organizations that deliver our readiness layer under their own name) and give them what they need to launch and promote a Center
- Run co-marketing so a partnership produces volume, not a press release
Growth strategy
- Bring a view on which segments and geographies we pursue, and in what order through analysis, no instinct
- Instrument what we do and report honestly on what is working and what is only producing activity
Qualifications
- 5 years in marketing, communications, research or a related field, with meaningful time spent in or around small business, entrepreneurship, economic development, or financial services
- Exceptional writing. You can turn analysis into something a busy professional reads to the end and forwards to a colleague
- Research instinct. You're drawn to finding the story in a dataset, not just packaging what you're handed
- Event and program execution. You've produced things — panels, roundtables, convenings — and handled the details that make them good
- Commercial instinct. You've worked close enough to a sales motion to know what a real opportunity looks like, and you don't hand off a lead and call it done
- Comfort as the second voice. A meaningful part of this role is making executives sound like themselves, at volume
- Fluency with AI tools, and the judgment to know when the output is wrong
- Willingness to travel for industry events
Nice to have: experience marketing to public sector or institutional buyers; a background in journalism, policy or research; existing relationships in the entrepreneurship support world.
What We're Not Looking For
- Brand marketers looking for a rebrand project
- Paid acquisition specialists — this role isn't performance marketing
- Content marketers who work from a keyword calendar
- Anyone whose first instinct is to hire an agency to do the thinking
First 90 Days
- Build ICP segmentation and target account list across priority verticals
- Stand up CRM workflows, lead routing, and pipeline reporting
- Establish LinkedIn content cadence for both company presence and founder thought leadership
- Implement at least one AI-powered workflow (lead enrichment, outbound personalization, or content production) that demonstrably reduces manual effort
