School Psychologist KIPP Texas Public Schools Location: Houston Position Summary The School Psychologist (Licensed Specialist in School Psychology - LSSP) provides psychological, behavioral, and educational assessment services that support student achievement and special education programming. The LSSP works collaboratively with educators, families, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate student needs, develop interventions, support compliance with special education regulations, and promote positive student outcomes across academic, social-emotional, and behavioral domains. KIPP School Psychologist describes the role as providing diagnostic information on student learning and helping ensure students receive the support and educational programming necessary for success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assessment & Evaluation Conduct Full and Individual Evaluations (FIEs) and re-evaluations for students referred to special education services. Assess cognitive, academic, behavioral, emotional, adaptive, and social functioning. Conduct classroom observations and gather data from teachers, parents, and support staff. Prepare comprehensive assessment reports and eligibility recommendations. Complete evaluations within state and district timelines. Special Education & Compliance Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings. Assist teams with interpreting assessment results and developing educational recommendations. Support eligibility determination and placement decisions. Contribute to the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, TEA regulations, and district policies. Intervention & Student Support Support Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) processes. Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) when appropriate. Assist teams with developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). Utilize data-based decision-making strategies to improve student outcomes. Support academic, behavioral, and social-emotional interventions. Consultation & Collaboration Collaborate with teachers, special educators, counselors, social workers, speech-language pathologists, and administrators. Consult with families regarding evaluation findings and student needs. Provide recommendations regarding accommodations, interventions, and support services. Assist with professional development and staff training initiatives related to student support and behavioral health. Minimum Qualifications Education Master's Degree, Specialist Degree (Ed.S.), or Doctoral Degree in School Psychology from an accredited institution. Licensure & Certification Valid Texas Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP) credential. Must meet all Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists and Texas Education Agency requirements. Experience School-based psychology experience preferred. Experience conducting psychoeducational evaluations preferred. Experience supporting special education evaluations and ARD processes preferred. Experience with MTSS, RTI, behavior intervention planning, and consultation services preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of psychological assessment instruments and evaluation procedures. Understanding of child development, learning theory, behavioral supports, and mental health practices. Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, MTSS, and special education compliance requirements. Strong data analysis and report-writing skills. Exceptional interpersonal, consultation, and communication abilities. Ability to manage multiple evaluations, meetings, and compliance timelines. Commitment to educational equity and student-centered decision-making Physical Requirements Ability to travel between assigned campuses as needed. Ability to conduct observations and assessments in a variety of educational settings. Ability to sit for extended periods during evaluations, meetings, and documentation activities. Ability to respond effectively during crisis situations requiring immediate student support.
