Role Overview
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations of the business, supporting the monthly close process, maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing compliance activities, and driving process improvements. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will play a critical part in ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting while supporting the continued growth of the organization.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional with strong technical accounting expertise, NetSuite experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
- Manage and support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reporting packages.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
- Oversee accounts payable, fixed assets, and cash accounting processes.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment and compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Support balance sheet reviews and account analyses.
Intercompany Accounting & Consolidations
- Manage intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and eliminations across legal entities.
- Prepare consolidation schedules and support multi-entity financial reporting.
- Ensure timely resolution of intercompany discrepancies.
- Assist with maintaining entity structures and accounting records.
Tax Compliance & Support
- Oversee sales tax compliance activities, including registrations, filings, reconciliations, and audit support.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors on federal, state, and local income tax compliance.
- Support preparation of tax-related schedules and documentation.
- Monitor tax notices and assist in resolving inquiries from taxing authorities.
- Support the CFO with tax planning initiatives and compliance requirements.
Audit & Internal Controls
- Coordinate and support annual financial statement audits.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Assist in maintaining and improving internal controls and accounting policies.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Leadership & Team Support
- Supervise and mentor members of the accounting team.
- Assist in developing department processes, procedures, and performance standards.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a trusted resource for accounting and financial matters across the organization.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- CPA preferred.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience managing month-end close processes and general ledger accounting.
- Experience with multi-entity and intercompany accounting.
- Experience supporting sales tax compliance and income tax reporting processes.
- Strong NetSuite experience required, including reporting and multi-entity environments.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite in San Diego and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Preferred
- Public accounting experience.
- Experience within consumer products, supplements, nutraceuticals, e-commerce, or omnichannel businesses.
- Experience supporting audits and external compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to identify and implement process improvements.

Work Location & Schedule
This position follows an enforced hybrid schedule, requiring team members to be present in our San Diego, California office at least four days per week (Monday–Thursday). Fridays are available for remote work. This role also requires attendance at all in-person monthly team meetings and quarterly company events.
Physical Requirements
This role primarily involves office-based work and requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move items up to 20–30 pounds, such as files or office supplies. Employees should be able to sit or stand for extended periods and perform frequent computer-based tasks, including prolonged exposure to a computer screen.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this position is $110,000–$130,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
