Role Overview
The Commissioning Associate plays a key role in ensuring that building systems operate efficiently and according to design. This position involves hands-on fieldwork, system verification, startup testing, issue tracking, and close coordination with MEPF teams and trade partners throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or a comparable blend of education and relevant experience
- 2–5 years of field or technical experience
- CxP or CxA credentials are an advantage
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Background in mechanical, electrical, or testing environments is beneficial
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, organize, and manage submittal documents from trade partners
- Prepare and format project manuals, reports, and reference materials
- Work collaboratively with commissioning and facility solutions teams
- Review drafts for system readiness and equipment performance testing
- Conduct on-site inspections to monitor progress and ensure installation quality
- Support owner training by coordinating and documenting sessions
- Provide guidance to junior team members
- Assist with Operational Project Readiness tasks involving MEPF systems
- Evaluate design drawings and shop drawings for accuracy and constructability
- Coordinate with trade partners during inspections, testing, and system startups
- Develop and execute commissioning procedures and testing plans
- Monitor, document, and resolve commissioning and startup issues
- Maintain accurate records through commissioning software tools
- Follow all on-site safety protocols and quality standards
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs continuously
- Frequent movement on-site including climbing, kneeling, and walking
- Regular use of computers and tablets for documentation
- Work may involve exposure to outdoor environments, weather changes, and noise
- Clear visual capability required for reading plans and performing measurements
