Purchasing Agent - Steel

Spoke with the company owner earlier today, and he's looking for a purchasing agent with steel experience. Bonus points if you have construction experience too.

This company's growing fast and is looking for someone who can come in and take extreme ownership of the steel purchasing process.

You'll be responsible for sourcing and purchasing steel materials while ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality standards are met. This role involves collaborating with suppliers, analyzing market trends, and managing vendor relationships to optimize the supply chain for our steel procurement needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Source and evaluate suppliers of steel materials to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
• Negotiate contracts and pricing with vendors to achieve optimal purchasing terms.
• Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends and pricing fluctuations in steel.
• Manage inventory levels and coordinate with logistics to ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Perform cost analysis to assess the total cost of ownership for purchasing decisions.
• Oversee vendor management to maintain strong relationships and resolve any issues that arise.
• Utilize Material Requirements Planning (MRP) to forecast needs and streamline procurement processes.
  
  

Qualifications

• Must have - 3 years proven experience as a Purchasing Agent or in a similar role within the steel industry.
• Must have - Experience with market research and vendor management practices.
• Nice to have - Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Nice to have - Knowledge of DOT regulations related to procurement and transportation of materials.
