Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Piping Superintendent to lead and coordinate piping installation activities on commercial construction projects. The Piping Superintendent will be responsible for managing field crews, ensuring quality control, maintaining schedule and safety standards, and coordinating with trades, vendors, and project management to deliver piping, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations for piping and mechanical installation activities, including HVAC and plumbing systems on commercial construction sites.
- Supervise, mentor, and coordinate multiple field crews, subcontractors, and foremen to ensure productive and safe work performance.
- Manage workflow and sequencing of piping and mechanical tasks to meet project schedules and milestones; collaborate with project managers and schedulers to update progress.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering drawings, codes, and quality control procedures; perform inspections and address non-conformances.
- Coordinate materials, equipment, and logistics with procurement and vendors to prevent delays and support efficient installations.
- Implement and enforce safety policies and best practices on site; conduct toolbox talks and safety briefings, and participate in incident investigations as needed.
- Collaborate with other trades (structural, electrical, HVAC, fire protection) and stakeholders to resolve issues and optimize installation approaches.
- Review and provide input on submittals, RFIs, as-built documentation, and punch lists; support commissioning and turnover activities.
- Track labor, productivity, and progress reporting; maintain accurate field documentation including daily reports, time sheets, and QC records.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of piping or mechanical construction experience with at least 3 years in a superintendent or senior field supervisory role on commercial projects.
- Proven experience with piping systems, HVAC, plumbing, mechanical installation, and commercial construction practices.
- Strong field management skills including crew supervision, scheduling coordination, and quality control enforcement.
- Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, codes (e.g., ASME, NFPA, local plumbing and building codes), and installation standards.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities; capable of coordinating multi-trade activities and resolving on-site issues.
- Proficient with basic construction software and tools for scheduling, reporting, and documentation; comfort with mobile devices for field reporting.
- Committed to safety with knowledge of OSHA regulations and a track record of maintaining safe job sites.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to read P&IDs, isometrics, and piping layouts; experience with welding coordination and QA/QC processes is a plus.
- Valid drivers license; relevant certifications (e.g., NCCER, OSHA 30, SMRP, or local trade qualifications) are preferred.
