Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Family Law Paralegal to support attorneys in a fast-paced family law practice. The ideal candidate will manage case files from intake through resolution, perform substantive legal research and drafting, coordinate discovery and court filings, assist with trial and mediation preparation, and provide exceptional client communication and case management support to ensure efficient, professional representation of our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Support attorneys with case strategy, legal research and drafting of pleadings, motions, affidavits, and settlement documents.
- Manage full case lifecycle: client intake, client interviews, fact-gathering, calendaring, docket management, and maintenance of case files.
- Prepare, assemble and format court filings and pleadings in compliance with court rules; perform e-filing and coordinate with court clerks as needed.
- Draft and organize discovery requests and responses, including interrogatories and Requests for Production; prepare for and coordinate depositions.
- Assist with trial preparation and logistics: witness preparation, evidence management, exhibit preparation, and trial notebooks.
- Prepare settlement agreements and provide support during mediation sessions, including document preparation and case summaries.
- Manage document organization and document management systems, ensuring accurate version control and secure storage of confidential materials.
- Coordinate scheduling of hearings, client meetings, depositions and mediations; maintain accurate calendars and deadlines to ensure timely filings.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, expert witnesses and vendors.
- Maintain billing and time records related to case tasks; assist with preparation of billing summaries and fee-related documentation.
- Assist with special projects as assigned, including legislative or procedural research and process improvements to enhance office efficiency.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of paralegal experience in family law (divorce, custody, support, domestic violence, guardianship, or related matters).
- Proven experience drafting pleadings, motions, affidavits, settlement agreements, and other family law documents.
- Skilled in discovery processes: drafting interrogatories, Requests for Production, preparing responses, and coordinating depositions.
- Strong legal research skills and experience preparing research memoranda and case law summaries.
- Proficiency with e-filing systems and familiarity with local court rules and filing requirements.
- Experience with case management and document management systems (e.g., Clio, MyCase, Legal Files or similar) and docketing/calendaring software.
- Excellent legal writing, proofreading and pleading formatting skills with high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to prioritize competing deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal and client-service skills; experience conducting client interviews and managing client communications.
- Ability to prepare witnesses and assist with trial and mediation logistics; comfortable in courtroom environments.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented law firm environment.
- Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFPA) and litigation support experience are a plus.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish or other languages) are a plus.
