Role SummaryAs the General Superintendent, you will lead on-site execution for small to mid-scale commercial construction projects, ensuring delivery aligns with scope, quality, schedule, safety, and budget requirements. Acting as the firm's field leader, you will translate plans into reality, foster a collaborative jobsite culture, and represent the company's high standards in craftsmanship and client care.
Key Responsibilities- Organizational Leadership
Oversee multiple crews and subcontractors on one or more commercial sites, coordinating daily operations under the project schedule and budgetary constraints. - Schedule & Budget Management
Maintain detailed daily logs, proactively resolve schedule disruptions, and collaborate with project managers to manage costs and change orders. - Quality Control & Craftsmanship
Ensure work meets plans and specifications through daily inspections and enforce structural and finish standards reflecting skilled workmanship. - Safety & Compliance
Lead safety protocols aligned with OSHA and client regulatory expectations; conduct regular toolbox talks and maintain a safe work environment. - Subcontractor Coordination
Vet, hire, schedule, and manage subcontractors; hold them accountable for performance, quality, and adherence to schedule. - Communication & Client Relations
Act as the onsite liaison among owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and field personnel; provide clear progress updates and address issues promptly. - Issue Resolution
Identifying field challenges, troubleshooting issues, implementing corrective strategies, and coordinating with office-based project leadership. - Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily reports, safety logs, RFIs, submittals, inspection results, and other project documentation in accordance with company standards. - Mentoring & Leadership Development
Train and mentor junior superintendents and foremen, promoting a culture of excellence, safety awareness, and teamwork.
- Experience: 10 years in commercial construction, including a minimum of 5 years in a superintendent or general superintendent capacity
- Project Profile: Experience managing mid- to large-scale projects (e.g., healthcare, institutional buildings, corporate offices, higher-ed, senior-living renovations) within $5M-$50M range
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of commercial building systems, scheduling, materials, and methods
- Safety Credentials: OSHA 30-hour or equivalent safety certification mandatory
- Leadership Skills: Proven track record in supervising multiple trades, driving productivity, and upholding quality standards
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication; adept at building relationships with clients and vendors
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred (relevant experience may substitute)
- Strategic problem-solver with hands-on field presence
- Detail-oriented, with a high-quality aesthetic and craftsmanship mindset
