Our office is located in Staten Island, New York. This is a field-based position, and the successful candidate will be required to drive regularly to customer job sites throughout the Greater New York City area, including the five boroughs, Westchester County, Long Island, areas near Connecticut, and northern New Jersey.
A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required, as daily travel to customer sites is an essential part of this position.
We are seeking a motivated Field Mechanical Engineer with hands-on HVAC experience and a strong understanding of centralized ventilation and refrigeration systems.
Position Summary
The Field Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supporting the installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of HVAC systems and building automation solutions at customer facilities. This position requires both field and office work and offers an excellent opportunity to work on complex projects in healthcare, higher education, and commercial buildings.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission, and troubleshoot HVAC equipment and centralized maintenance management systems.
- Perform field inspections and evaluate the operation of air handling units, exhaust systems, fan arrays, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, and refrigeration systems.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues and recommend effective solutions.
- Verify airflow, pressure relationships, temperatures, and system performance.
- Assist with startup and commissioning of new HVAC equipment and control systems.
- Coordinate with mechanical contractors, electricians, controls contractors, and facility personnel.
- Provide technical support and training to customers.
- Prepare service reports, startup reports, and field documentation.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable safety regulations and company standards.
- Travel regularly to customer sites throughout the five boroughs of New York City, Westchester, Long Island, Upstate New York, and northern New Jersey.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of field experience with commercial or industrial HVAC systems.
- Strong understanding of:
- Centralized ventilation systems
- Air handling units (AHUs)
- Exhaust and supply fan systems
- Chilled water and hot water systems
- Refrigeration systems
- Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS)
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PDF software.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability and willingness to drive regularly to job sites.
