Mechanic

• Full-Time: 40 hours/week
• Monday through Friday
• First Shift (flexible start time)
• Company vehicle and tools provided during work hours
• Allowance for boots and uniform

GENERAL SUMMARY 

Under limited supervision with alternating periods of relative autonomy and general review, performs repair, service and regular maintenance on library vehicles and small engine equipment. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required include: 

• Knowledge of standard methods and techniques of automotive repair. 
• Knowledge of automotive systems and their interrelationships. 
• Computer literate. 
• Strong mechanical aptitude. 
• Ability to diagnose auto and equipment operational problems. 
• Ability to operate power and hand tools, and mechanical and electronic diagnostic equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Complies with Cuyahoga County Public Library’s policies, rules, guidelines, procedures, requirements, standards, and practices applicable to the job, including (but not limited to) work scheduling and attendance, customer service, use of Library property, computer use, personal conduct, and confidentiality.
• Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles, component parts and small engine equipment according to established maintenance schedules.
• Diagnoses source of vehicle or equipment operational problem, and makes necessary repair or service.
• Locates and orders replacement/repair parts and schedules outside repair/rebuild services from vendor sources.
• Maintains inventory of replacement/repair parts.
• Ensures bicycles are in safe operating condition for patrons.

Summary Minimum Education & Experience 

• Two to four years of automotive repair experience.
• National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is preferred. 

OTHER TESTING/LICENSES REQUIRED 

• Due to the physical exertion required to perform the essential duties of this job, the decision to hire is contingent on job candidate passing a pre-employment medical exam through a medical provider contracted by the library. 
• License: A valid Ohio Driver's license is required to operate library owned vehicles and a clean driving record must be maintained at all times. 
• A criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS 

• Workers are subject to emergency road calls. 
• Extremely strenuous, with frequent physical exertion such as lifting of very heavy items (more than 75 pounds), deep bending and working in difficult or cramped positions for long periods of time. 
• Frequent or prolonged exposure to weather elements. Exposure to electrical hazards and hazards of moving parts.
