What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialized Services SLP position at Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities?
Overview
We are seeking a current Cuyahoga DD Speech Language Pathologist to provide specialized, direct therapeutic interventions and services to individuals eligible for Cuyahoga DD services with complex or intense needs. The nature of work will include but is not limited to the following:
- Complete Speech Language Pathology (SLP) related assessments, work with the person’s team to identify and prioritize goals, develop and use therapeutic activities and equipment to directly and frequently implement treatment plans for individuals with complex or intense needs.
- Participate in Interdisciplinary team meetings led by the person’s Support Administrator to determine the Speech Language Pathology services and supports needed, including identifying priority services, the manner and frequency of direct/intense service delivery, and the frequency of additional meetings to evaluate service progress. Collaborate/coordinate with other professionals as needed.
- Create appropriate data collection materials and collect data on the progress of these interventions to routinely share with the team and adjust activities and treatment plans as needed.
- Educate and train families and providers to implement and use appropriate therapeutic activities and equipment, including communication devices in between therapist visits and on-going. Provide data collection materials as needed.
- Use new and emerging assessment and intervention strategies for individuals with complex and intense support needs where applicable to support the best possible outcomes.
- Support individuals with complex and intense needs in Cuyahoga DD respite and ICF homes as assigned.
- Complete initial and ongoing training for PBS-CR and implement strategies as needed.
- Direct and provide clinical supervision to Speech Language Pathology interns as needed.
- Represent Cuyahoga DD and participate in related stakeholder committees and workgroups as directed.
- Provide training at Cuyahoga DD, provider or other community sites regarding interventions and services for individuals with complex and intense needs.
SALARY: Per the MOU signed October 2025 between Cuyahoga DD and ACCESS, internal candidates will receive a one-time salary increase of 3% upon accepting the new position.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Per the MOU referenced above, Internal candidates who have successfully completed a probationary period per Article 12 of the CBA will serve a 120-day probationary period in the new specialized position. Internal candidates shall have the option to return to a previously held position within 30 days of hire, provided a vacancy exists in the previously held position. Management may, after conferring with the employee and provided a valid vacancy exists, return an employee to a previously held position within 120 calendar days that is vacant due to a separation or another internal candidate hired into the new specialized position. An employee who returns to a previously held position will revert to their previous salary schedule upon return to the previous position.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology
- Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist by the State of Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year experience providing direct SLP services to individuals with complex and intense needs.
- Valid state of Ohio driver's license and continued maintenance of excellent driving record.
- Applicant must be a current SLP with the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
