Job description
Description: Cable technicians perform installation, modification, repair, and maintenance of voice, video, and data cabling systems and equipment. The duties of a cable technician include installing lines, laying ground cable, and setting up associated equipment for clients.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Mounts TV monitors on walls and drop ceilings; must be able to install mounts on walls.
- Install low voltage lines (Cat5 and Cat6).
- Installs UTP copper and other audio and video cable and connectors.
- Install outlets, pull cables, perform fire stopping and pre-termination including organizing, forming, dressing and labeling cables to industry standards.
- Install Desktop PC’s and network hardware.
- Install and mount VOIP Phones and security cameras.
- Termination, coaxial connectors, light-crimp connectors, compression connectors.
- Tests copper cables to required certification parameters utilizing appropriate test equipment as required; diagnose and corrects issues.
- Performs removal and demolition of abandoned cables.
- Performs rack assembly and install, performs other related duties as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Must have experience using power tools and basic tools such as level and measuring tape.
- Must be able to finish job in its entirety; cleaning up all materials and any installation mess created.
- Must be comfortable using cell phone, PC, reading and composing emails on a regular basis.
- Must be able to follow a floor plan.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for company assets including but not limited to vehicles, tools, and other test equipment.
- Ability to multi-task and work in fast paced environment.
- Schedule is kept consistently and timely, with minimal absences, and minimal tardiness.
- Supports and conducts self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.
- This position requires 50% or greater travel.
Key non-technical skills:
- Comfortability with travelling when needed in local SE Michigan area.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail in a faster paced environment.
- Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities that fit both client and company requirements.
- Customer oriented and ability to communicate with the clients in a clear and concise manner.
- Provide guidance and limited training with clients on how their technology works.
- Open to learning new things and remaining flexible in technology changes or processes.
- Excellent planning, documenting, and organization skills with an ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

- Construction or installation: 1 year (Preferred)
