Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Underground Foreman to join our growing Canton team. This individual will be responsible for leading underground utility construction crews, ensuring safe, high-quality, and timely project execution. The Foreman will work closely with the Project Manager and Underground Department to uphold Custom Utilicom’s commitment to excellence, safety, and efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the Department Supervisor with planning and executing daily work assignments.
Ensure accurate time tracking for project-related work.
Conduct quality control checks on both in-house and contractor work.
Perform private utility locating and pre-construction bore path markings.
Verify facility owner utilities are properly marked ahead of work assignments.
Read and interpret work orders, strand maps, PDF prints, and CATV/fiber documents.
Submit daily pay sheets and as-built documentation.
Lead vehicle and equipment inspections; maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked truck.
Ensure all equipment and trailers are functional and maintained.
Conduct and document daily pre-job safety/hazard analyses with crew.
Enforce and model proper use of PPE and uphold safety protocols.
Install conduit, underground fiber/coaxial cable, and locate existing utilities.
Act as a point of leadership in the field—maintaining professionalism and crew morale.
Step in to assist other underground crews on challenging or time-sensitive projects.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
High school diploma or GED required; technical field education is a plus.
Minimum of 2–3 years of underground construction or directional drilling experience.
Proficiency in locating utilities and HDD operation.
Strong working knowledge of HDD equipment operation, safety, and maintenance.
Ability to lift up to 60 lbs daily and work in all weather conditions.
Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record; insurable under company policy.
